Celebrating our successes and celebrating us: a highlight of just some of the amazing things we have done and achieved this week!

All About Minibeasts!

In Nursery this week, we have excitedly begun our new topic all about minibeasts. The girls enjoyed a lovely walk around the school grounds, exploring different areas to see what tiny creatures they could discover. Equipped with clipboards and magnifying glasses, they carefully observed and ticked off the minibeasts they found along the way. We were thrilled to find so many, including ladybirds, woodlice, spiders, worms, and bees! It was wonderful to see their curiosity as they learned more about the world around them. This experience also provided a valuable opportunity for discussion about how to treat living creatures with care and respect.

Squiggle While You Wiggle

In Kindergarten we follow ‘Squiggle While You Wiggle’. This is a fun pre-writing programme assisting pupils in developing the physical skills they need to be ‘ready to write’. ‘Squiggle While You Wiggle’ helps the pupils develop shoulder stability, elbow control, wrist strength and rotation, finger strength and fine motor control. The pupils “squiggle” in the air and on large paper while moving to music. Their repeated movement patterns build the muscle memory needed for handwriting. Strengthening the body, from the shoulders down to the fingers, gives them the strong foundations they need to become confident, comfortable writers. As you can see from the accompanying photographs, the Kindergarten pupils love their weekly sessions!

Reception Embrace Recycling and Earth Day

Reception pupils have started a new topic ‘The Environment’. This week they have focused on waste disposal and recycling, learning how their small actions can help to protect our planet. To celebrate Earth Day, the girls took part in a peaceful outdoor yoga session, connecting with nature and thinking about how we can care for the environment. They also showed great teamwork during a school litter pick, helping to keep our surroundings clean.

Back in the classroom, creativity has flourished through junk modelling and upcycling yoghurt pots into new items. A highlight for many was making their own paper from recycled materials, helping them understand the recycling process first-hand. Girls are now looking forward to exploring climate change and sustainability in more detail, continuing to develop their understanding of how to look after the world around them.

Bears Bears Bears!

To complement our topic on Toys this term, the Year One girls are beginning an exciting new project: designing and creating their very own teddy bear hand puppets! They'll be putting the sewing skills they learned in the Autumn Term to good use as they bring their teddy bear characters to life. Stay tuned to see their wonderful creations take shape!

Year Two Become Map Experts!

Year Two have been thoroughly enjoying their Geography learning this week as they explored maps, plans and routes. The girls have taken part in some fascinating discussions about how maps have changed over time and how modern technology now plays such an important role in how we access and use them. The girls spent time studying maps of the school, identifying familiar buildings and developing their understanding of how spaces can be represented from above. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they recognised key features and made connections to their everyday surroundings. Putting their skills into practice, the girls then followed a set of instructions to navigate a route around the Prep playground and outdoor areas. There was great excitement as they carefully followed each direction, working with focus and teamwork to find their way.

The girls had a fantastic time and were incredibly proud of successfully making their way back to the classroom — a group of future orienteers in the making! Well done, Year Two, for such enthusiastic and engaged learning!

Edge-ing Ahead in Maths!

Year Three have been learning about perimeter and have enjoyed hands-on learning both in the playground and in the classroom, applying their skills in real-life contexts. Working collaboratively in groups, they used rulers and tape measures to measure a variety of everyday objects, carefully adding each side to calculate the total distance around them. The girls demonstrated excellent teamwork and enthusiasm throughout, while developing their measuring skills and deepening their understanding of perimeter in a fun and engaging way.

Year Four House Art Competition

Our Year Four pupils recently showcased their creativity in an exciting art competition themed Cities of the Future. The children explored imaginative ideas about what our world might look like in years to come, producing vibrant and thought-provoking artwork. From floating buildings and eco-friendly skyscrapers to high-tech transport systems and green urban spaces, each piece reflected originality and careful attention to detail. The competition encouraged students to think about sustainability, innovation, and how cities can evolve to meet future challenges.

We were incredibly impressed by the effort and enthusiasm shown by all participants. Choosing winners was no easy task, as every entry demonstrated fantastic creativity and imagination. Well done to all of Year Four for their outstanding work!

Strengthening Dictionary Skills Through Alphabet Challenge

Year Five girls recently sharpened their dictionary skills in an engaging classroom activity focused on alphabetical order. The lesson challenged students to investigate groups of words that shared the same first three letters, encouraging them to look more closely at the letters that follow in order to determine the correct sequence.

Working in small groups, the girls explored how dictionaries organise words and discovered that when the first few letters are the same, it is the next letter that decides the order. Using dictionaries, they carefully compared words, discussed their reasoning and placed them correctly in alphabetical order. By the end of the lesson, the girls had not only improved their understanding of alphabetical order but also gained valuable practice navigating a dictionary efficiently.

Mission Implausible

Year Six have spent the past few weeks fully immersed in rehearsals for their end-of-year production, Mission Implausible. From the very first read-through to the final performance, the girls have shown real commitment as they learned lines, mastered songs and perfected increasingly complex dance routines. Tuesday’s dress rehearsal, performed in front of the Prep School, was an important milestone and gave the cast a chance to experience the energy of a live audience. By the time performances took place on Wednesday and Thursday, their hard work had clearly paid off, with confident delivery, strong characterisation and a real sense of enjoyment shining through. Beyond the stage, the production has helped to develop valuable transferable skills. The girls have grown in confidence, supported one another and embraced the challenge of performing in front of others. It has been particularly pleasing to see so many girls take on lead roles with maturity and assurance, while every member of the year group has contributed meaningfully to the overall success.

This production feels like a fitting tribute to a year of sustained effort and progress. We now look forward to an exciting summer term, with further enrichment opportunities ahead.
