Course Content and Assessment

Develop skills necessary for a variety of careers in fields such as law, journalism, the media, politics, administration and many others.

Paper 1

2 hours

Paper 1 is a 2 hour written paper and constitutes 40% of the total mark focussing on Core Content: The 20th Century. This paper includes International Relations since 1919 and a Depth Study of Germany between 1918-45. This includes studying some of the following topics: The Peace Treaties of 1919-1923

  1. The League of Nations
  2. Germany 1918-1945 including The Weimar Republic and Hitler’s Germany
  3. International Collapse of Peace (up to 1939)
  4. Who was to blame for the Cold War?

Paper 2

1 hour 45 minutes

Paper 2 is a 1 hour and 45 minute written paper that constitutes 30% of the total mark. Students answer six questions on one prescribed topic taken from the Core Content. There is a range of source material relating to each prescribed topic.

Paper 3

1 hour

Paper 4 is a one 1 hour written paper and constitutes 30% of the total mark where students answer one question on a Depth Study.
