Prep-school Admissions
Most EHS girls join us at 4 years old, in our Reception. If you’re considering EHS for your daughter, it’s a good idea to talk to us as soon as possible, as we have a waiting list for places. We accept early registrations for our Nursery from birth.

Starting Your Application
Making a Registration for your daughter will require you to set up a unique login to our Admissions Portal. From here you will be able to make applications (including scholarship applications), complete important forms, track your applications progress and communicate with us directly. We hope this will make your family's journey through our admissions process as simple and convenient as possible. Please make sure you make a note of the email address and password for future use.
Yes. Many children who attend our assessments come from international families and are exposed to two or more languages throughout their early years. Our Early Years assessors are experienced in working with children who have English as a second language.
No. We accept applications from families based in a very wide area, and do not give preference to those living locally.
In the Preparatory School, we offer Bursaries on entry to Reception and Year 3 only. When registering your daughter to be considered for a place, please indicate on the Registration Form that you are interested in applying for a bursary. All applications are subject to a Home Visit from a third party organisation ‘Bursary Administration’.

Joining Nursery or Kindergarten
We accept girls from the age of 2, once they are physically, emotionally and socially ready for our learning environment, away from home. We’ll invite you and your daughter to an informal pre-admission visit, which takes up to an hour. During this time your child will spend time with our Senior Teacher and visit her prospective year group whilst you will have time to have your questions answered. If everyone’s happy, we’ll discuss an appropriate starting date with you.
Our play-based assessments take place during the Spring and Summer Terms. We welcome all candidates into our friendly ‘Westbourne’ area of school for a small group playtime and some fun activities designed to explore language and social skills, physical and creative skills, and enable girls to relax and be themselves.
Offers are normally posted to parents the week following your daughter’s assessment.
Joining Reception
If you apply for a Reception start we’ll invite you and your daughter to a pre-admission session. This is an opportunity for us to look at her academic potential, and for her to meet current pupils and get a feel for what life’s like here. Parents are also able to have their questions answered and find out more about the day-to-day procedures. We aim for the session to be informal, fun and enjoyable for the girls and it will involve group and individual activities covering language and social skills, number, physical and creative skills. We do not expect girls to have early reading, writing or maths skills.
The assessment will last around 30 - 45 minutes.
Offers are normally posted to parents the week following your daughter’s assessment.
Joining Years 1-6
Your child could join us in our Preparatory School in any year group, subject to the availability of places.
Our entrance assessments for entry to Year 3 generally take place during March but can be arranged at other times. During their day with us girls will take part in class activities as well as completing assessments in maths and English and spending time with pupils in the playground.
Offers are normally posted to parents the week following your daughter’s assessment.
