Exams
Each separate science qualification comprises two written examinations (worth 50% each) lasting 1 hour 45 minutes in duration. This qualification is linear, meaning that students will sit all their examinations at the end of the course. Practical work is central to Physics, and the students’ scientific skills are developed by undertaking required practical investigations throughout the course and these will be incorporated within examination questions.
Options for Learning
Students will be offered the three separate GCSE science courses: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The majority of students will study all three. All of these courses will enable students to develop their enthusiasm and interest in science. GCSE sciences provide an integrated opportunity to acquire and apply skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works and its essential role in society. The sciences have been identified as ‘facilitating subjects’ by top Universities, opening doors to a wide range of career pathways. They offer skills that can be applied in any course or career students choose to pursue in the future.
