Course Content and Assessment

Two separate qualifications are taught in a combined course.

English Language

60% Examination 40% Coursework

English Language focuses on developing analytical skills with the close study of non-fiction texts and a range of writing skills. The examination includes Section A on Non-fiction texts and Section B on Transactional Writing. Coursework is made up of two assignments: the first task is an analytical essay, and the second task is an imaginative writing piece.

English Literature

60% Examination 40% Coursework

English Literature students will read a range of modern drama, poetry, prose, as well as a literary heritage text. The examination features Section A on Unseen Poetry, Section B on Anthology Poetry and Section C on Modern Prose. Coursework is comprised of two assignments: the first task is a modern drama essay, and the second task is a literary heritage essay.
