Course Content and Assessment

There are two Areas of Study, which are assessed through two externally set examination papers.

Paper 1 - The study of religions (5)%0

Paper 1, 'The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices', is a written exam lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. This paper constitutes 50% of the GCSE. In this part of the course, students engage in an in-depth study of two major world religions, Islam and Christianity, focusing on their key beliefs and practices.

Paper 2 - Thematic Studies (50%)

Paper 2, 'Thematic Studies', is a written exam lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. This paper also makes up 50% of the GCSE. It covers religious, philosophical, and ethical studies themes, including:

  • Theme A: Relationships and families
  • Theme B: Religion and life
  • Theme D: Religion, peace and conflict
  • Theme E: Religion, crime and punishment
