EHS Core Values
How we Teach our Prep Students
The EHS Values are key to everything we do within the Prep School. They are embedded within daily life and form tutors weave these into the curriculum and throughout all learning opportunities across the school day. Demonstration of our values is celebrated each week in our Celebrating Success Assembly where girls from Kindergarten to Year Six, who have particularly demonstrated our values, receive a certificate in front of the whole of the Prep School. Our values are what help to ensure our girls are supported to develop into their own, unique selves and are well-prepared for life beyond EHS Prep.

A Curriculum That Goes Further
Specialist Teaching Staff
Specialist teaching is at the heart of the EHS Prep experience. Girls are taught by subject specialists for Music, Languages and P.E. from Kindergarten and by our Science specialist from Year Three.
Robitics, Coding & Digital Learning
Every girl from Reception to Year Six is provided with a 1:1 iPad. Strategic integration of digital technology in the classroom allows for a blended learning approach so that girls are well-prepared for the future. Our state-of-the-art Computer suite is well resourced with programmable robots and coding is at the heart of our computing curriculum.
Balanceability
Girls in Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception take part in the weekly sessions following the UK’s first accredited program designed to teach young children to ride a bicycle without training wheels using ergonomic balance bikes. This is a weekly, timetabled session to develop their core strength, gross motor skills and equip them with the lifelong skill of riding a bike.
Stretch & Challenge
There is evidence that girls, and in particular higher attaining girls, can struggle to take risks with their learning. Where achievement is routinely praised above all else, students can develop an unhealthy habit of only completing tasks that guarantee success. In a world where anything short of perfection is perceived as negative, the prospect of failure, looking foolish or disappointing others can become so distressing as to prevent these children from reaching beyond their comfort zone or taking any form of risk whatsoever. At EHS we embrace and champion a growth mindset philosophy, embed independent learning challenges and support girls with targetted interventions to ensure they are reaching their potential.
IGNITE
Ignite is an innovative Year Six Enrichment programme designed to support personal growth and prepare girls for the world beyond school. Through a carefully curated mix of academic challenge, creative exploration, emotional awareness and real-world learning, the programme helps pupils develop the confidence, independence and curiosity they need to take their next steps.
Physical Education & Sport
Every girl from Nursery benefits from swimming lessons in our on-site 25m indoor swimming pool. Girls in Year Three-Year Six have at least two PE and three Games lessons each week. Girls in Reception-Year Two have at least three PE and two Games lessons each week. Games sessions include netball, hockey, cricket, football, rugby, tennis and athletics depending on the term. PE includes gymnastics, dance and swimming.
Outdoor Learning
Our youngest pupils enjoy weekly Forest School sessions and our older girls make use of our Outdoor Classroom and School Allotment to enhance and inspire their teaching and learning experience.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At EHS Prep, learning does not just take place within the classroom. Our girls benefit from an ambitious and enriching range of co-curricular activities, clubs, visiting speakers, trips, themed days and creative workshops, all designed to bring your daughter’s learning to life in exciting, memorable ways.
Every girl from Reception to Year Six is set an independent challenge to take part in our ‘One Big Termly Brainwave’, where subject co-ordinators pose a question for the girls to answer in any form they choose. This might be a poster, a presentation or even a film.
Girls in Year Four, Year Five and Year Six are given the opportunity to take part in a residential trip during the Summer term. These are a wonderful chance to develop their independence and risk-taking and to have a lot of fun along the way.
Girls take part in at least one curriculum trip or workshop each term. This allows them the opportunity to immerse themselves in their learning and help to create lifelong memories
Available each week and change on a termly basis. Some of these clubs take place at lunchtime, whilst others run before or after school. Many of these are included in the school fees, whilst others incur a small, additional cost.
