Nursery to Year Six Highlights

Kindergarten and Nursery pupils have enjoyed a wonderful start to their weekly Music lessons this academic year. Our youngest pupils were delighted to meet specialist Music teacher Miss Hyland, who arrived with her ukulele and very special Music bag, ready for an exciting musical adventure! The children were keen to join in with a variety of action songs.  One particular favourite introduced the pupils to saying ‘hello’ in several languages. The children listened carefully, copied the words and actions, and were excited to discover that people around the world greet one another in many different ways. There were plenty of smiles, lots of laughter and joyful participation throughout the lesson. It was a fantastic introduction to Music and our young musicians have already developed a real enthusiasm for their weekly musical journey. The pupils cannot wait to see what Miss Hyland has in store, and in her special Music bag, next week! 

What a wonderful week it has been in Reception! We have been so proud of how well the girls are settling into school life. They are becoming more confident each day, learning our classroom routines and beginning to form some lovely new friendships. Some of the girls are even coming into the classroom independently in the mornings – what superstars! The girls have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our continuous provision, both inside the classroom and outdoors. They have been busy playing, creating, investigating and working alongside their teachers. They have also loved taking part in their specialist lessons, including Music, Swimming and PE. It has been a busy and exciting week, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved already. Well done, Reception!  

This week, Year One had their first Forest School session and what an exciting adventure it was! The girls were thrilled to kit up in their wellies and waterproofs before heading outside to explore our brand-new Forest School area. We began by gathering around the fire pit and settling into the log circle, where Mrs Cornelius introduced us to the Forest School rules and explained how we could safely enjoy our new surroundings. Then it was time to explore! The girls spent time getting to know the area and discovering its permanent features. There was plenty of enthusiasm as they created wonderful concoctions in the mud kitchen, climbed trees, rolled down the hill and collected natural treasures along the way. To finish our session, we gathered back together around the fire pit and joined in with the Forest School song. It was a lovely way to end our first afternoon of outdoor exploration and adventure. The girls have already shown such enthusiasm, curiosity and confidence, and we are very much looking forward to seeing what adventures await us in our next Forest School session! 

Year Two have been diving into a brand-new and exciting Science topic this week — the five senses! The girls began by exploring sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, identifying the different parts of the body that help us experience and understand the world around us. There was plenty of enthusiasm as the girls shared their own favourite smells, sounds, tastes, textures and sights. It was lovely to hear such a wide variety of ideas and discover just how differently we can experience the world around us. This is just the beginning of our sensory adventure! Over the coming weeks, the girls will be putting their scientific thinking to the test through a range of exciting experiments and investigations. We cannot wait to see what they discover! Well done, Year Two — your curiosity and enthusiasm for Science are truly inspiring!

What a fantastic start to the new term for Year Four! The girls began their science learning with an exciting and interactive workshop led by Severn Trent, exploring the fascinating journey of water from source to tap – and beyond! They discovered where our local water comes from, how it is treated before reaching our homes and how we can all help to save this precious resource. The girls also tackled the very important question of “What goes down the toilet?” through a fun and practical game! There was plenty of opportunity to learn through play, with Water Snakes and Ladders, Water Connect Four and exciting VR headsets helping to bring their learning to life. It was a fantastic way to start the term, encouraging the girls to be curious, ask questions and engage with science in a fun and memorable way. 

It has been absolutely lovely to welcome the girls back to Year Five after the summer holidays. They have returned to school full of enthusiasm and have settled remarkably quickly into their new routines. We have been so impressed by the positive attitude, kindness and eagerness to learn that they have already shown. It certainly feels as though we have an exciting year ahead of us! We started the new school year with a splash thanks to a fascinating water workshop delivered by Severn Trent Water. The workshop gave the girls an opportunity to think about something we often take for granted – the clean, safe water that comes from our taps every day. The girls discovered more about the important work that takes place to keep our water safe and drinkable, as well as exploring some of the different ways in which our water sources can become polluted. They thought carefully about possible sources of pollution and discussed what we can all do to help protect our water and the wider environment. There were plenty of opportunities to get involved too! The girls particularly enjoyed becoming ‘leak detectives’, using their problem-solving skills to investigate how leaks can be identified and why saving water is so important. They also tackled the important question of what should – and definitely should not – be flushed down the toilet! This prompted some excellent discussions about the problems that unsuitable items can cause in our sewer systems. The girls engaged brilliantly throughout the workshop, asking thoughtful questions, sharing their ideas and learning a huge amount along the way. It was a fantastic way to begin our Year Five journey and, if the enthusiasm shown during our first few days is anything to go by, we have a wonderful year ahead of us! 

The new school year has got off to a fantastic start for Year Six, who have returned to school full of enthusiasm, energy and determination. After the summer break, the girls have settled back into their routines remarkably well. Classrooms have once again been filled with eager learners, busy discussions and plenty of hard work. From the very first day, Year Six have shown that they are ready to make the most of their final year in Prep. With such an enthusiastic and hardworking start, Year Six are already proving that they are ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead. If the first few weeks are anything to go by, this promises to be a very successful and memorable final year! Well done, Year Six — keep up the fantastic work!
