Sports Day Fun!
Last Friday, Nursery and Kindergarten enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day filled with fun, excitement and plenty of sporting spirit. The event welcomed many family members, who gathered to cheer on the pupils as they took part in a range of exciting races. Enthusiasm, determination and resilience were on show as the pupils competed in running races, carefully balanced quoits on their heads, tackled the hurdles and concentrated hard during the egg-and-spoon race. One of the highlights of the day was the family obstacle race, when the pupils’ relatives eagerly joining in the fun. Their enthusiastic participation created a wonderful atmosphere and plenty of laughter, making the event even more memorable. Sports Day was a fantastic celebration of teamwork, perseverance and enjoyment. Thank you to all the families who attended and helped make the occasion such a special success for our youngest pupils.
Storytime in the Sunshine
Reception girls have been enjoying story time in our outdoor classroom, making the most of the warm sunshine and the natural surroundings. Sitting together on the tree trunk seats, the girls listened carefully to a range of engaging stories, shared their favourite parts and discussed the characters involved. Reading outdoors provides a calm and relaxing environment while encouraging a love of books and developing listening, speaking and comprehension skills. It is a wonderful way to combine literacy with an appreciation of nature!
Hand Puppet Designers! 🧵🎭
Over the course of this term, Year One have been designing and making their own hand puppets. We began by creating our designs and thinking carefully about the features we wanted our puppets to have. Using the sewing skills we have practised throughout the year, we carefully stitched our puppets together and then added lots of creative details. We gave our puppets faces, hair, clothes and, in some cases, even jewellery! Each puppet was unique and reflected its creator's imagination and personality. We are very proud of our finished puppets and of how much our sewing skills have developed this year. It has been wonderful to see our ideas come to life!
To the Moon and Beyond! 🚀🌕
Year Two have been over the moon with excitement as they explored one of the greatest moments in history – the Apollo 11 Moon Landing! The girls have been completely captivated by this fascinating topic, discovering all about the incredible mission, the brave astronauts and the remarkable science that made landing on the Moon possible. Inspired by their learning, each girl created her own unique Moon Book, filled with eye-catching illustrations, fascinating facts and carefully presented information. They enjoyed learning about the Apollo 11 mission, the astronauts' rigorous training and the technology that helped make this extraordinary achievement a reality. The excitement continued beyond the classroom, with many girls carrying out their own independent research and proudly bringing in books, posters and interesting facts to share with their classmates. It has been wonderful to see such curiosity, enthusiasm and a genuine love of learning as the girls asked thoughtful questions and eagerly shared their discoveries. This has been a truly memorable topic that has sparked imaginations and inspired a new generation of young explorers. Well done, Year Two, for reaching for the stars with your fantastic learning!
Monet Masterpieces!
Year Three have been learning about the work of Claude Monet and exploring the techniques to recreate his work. The girls began by learning about colour mixing, creating a variety of tints and shades. They also explored how to mix different hues and practised creating a range of greens to match the colours of real leaves. To develop their understanding of Monet's impressionistic style, the girls practised the techniques by recreating one of his paintings in their sketchbooks. The following week, they chose one of Monet's paintings to paint on A3 paper. They began by creating the background using a dabbing technique to mimic Monet's distinctive brushwork. In the final lesson, they added the details in the foreground, carefully mixing colours to achieve the desired shades and tones. The girls enjoyed the project and were proud of their finished artwork.
French Breakfast!
As part of our early Bastille Day celebrations, the girls in Prep and Pre-Prep were invited to partake in a French breakfast. There was great excitement as each year group, from Year Six right down to Reception, arrived at Prep Hall to enjoy some croissants, pains au chocolat, tartines (baguette with butter) and juice. Our brilliant Year Six Language Leaders (Gurbani, Uthara and Zara) did an amazing job in encouraging everyone to order in French. The atmospheric French accordion music, French Tricolore bunting and model Eiffel Tower all added to the experience. It was just like being transported to a Parisian café. Sadly, the girls had to return to their school work afterwards. However, all agreed that it was the perfect way to start the final week of the year. Joyeuse Fête du 14 juillet! Happy Bastille Day one and all!
Cranedale Highlights!
Year Five have had such a wonderfully industrious year and a highlight has certainly been the work linked to their amazing residential trip to the Cranedale Centre in Yorkshire. The girls have proudly shared their folders this week, demonstrating a confident and independent approach to their learning. Well done, Year Five!
Year Six Speech Day
Our Year Six Speech Day was a wonderful celebration of the girls' achievements as they marked the end of their time in the Prep School. Families enjoyed a memorable afternoon with beautiful performances from the Prep Orchestra and Prep Choir, along with Year Six delighting the audience with a song of their own. The girls also heard warm and heartfelt words from their form teachers, reflecting on the many memories, successes and friendships they have shared. We were privileged to welcome former EHS Prep pupil and Olympic runner Laura Whittle, whose inspiring talk encouraged the girls to embrace new challenges with courage and determination. A special moment came as each pupil proudly crossed the stage to receive her leavers' scroll. Afterwards, the girls enjoyed looking through their leavers' books, a thoughtful gift from the EHS Parents' Association. It was a fitting celebration of a year in which the girls have shown enthusiasm, resilience and bravery.
