As we bring another remarkable academic year to a close, we have so much to celebrate. Our 150th anniversary year has been a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the strength of our heritage while looking ahead with confidence and ambition. From memorable community events to outstanding pupil achievements, this has been a year that truly honours the generations of girls who have come before us.
We launched our anniversary year in an unforgettable style, bringing together pupils and staff from across the school for a world record attempt and creating a spectacular human '150' viewed above. Both moments captured the spirit, energy and sense of belonging that make Edgbaston High School such a special place. Throughout the year, our Fearlessly Female campaign has celebrated 150 years of educating girls to be confident, courageous and compassionate young women, whilst our new school film has helped share that story with prospective families and supporters.
Our pupils embraced the celebrations wholeheartedly through a fantastic programme of House events, including the House Bake Off, House Musical, House Gala, House Play, House Quiz and House Choir. Each event showcased not only talent, but also teamwork, creativity and excellence. A special 150th Birthday Assembly brought the entire school community together to celebrate the values, traditions and achievements that have shaped EHS across the decades.
Our wider community has played an equally important part in this milestone year. It was a pleasure to welcome more than 130 alumnae back to school for the Laurels Association 150th Birthday Reunion, celebrating the remarkable women who form such an important part of our history and legacy. The year concluded with our largest ever on-site celebration, a wonderful 150th Birthday Fun Fair attended by more than 700 members of the EHS family. It was a joyful and fitting way to mark this significant anniversary together.
Throughout the year, our pupils have exemplified the values that define Edgbaston High School. Through the Girls with Goals programme, Prep Superhero Day, successes in sport, music and drama, charitable initiatives, published stories, educational visits and countless acts of kindness and support for one another, they have demonstrated what it means to be part of our school community. Their achievements, both large and small, continue to inspire us.
Above all, this anniversary year has brought our Fearlessly Female ethos to life. Not as a slogan, but as something we see every day in our pupils. We see it when girls find their voice, embrace new challenges, support one another, and pursue their ambitions with confidence. We see it in the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers who walk our corridors each day. As we celebrate 150 years of educating girls, our commitment remains unchanged: to ensure every pupil leaves EHS with the confidence, character and conviction to shape her own future and make a positive difference in the world.
My sincere thanks go to our exceptional staff, supportive parents, dedicated governors, loyal alumnae and valued partners, including the Girls' Schools Association, whose encouragement and commitment make so much possible. It was a pleasure to welcome GSA Chief Executive Jeanette Cochrane to Edgbaston High School this year, reaffirming our shared belief that when girls are empowered to lead, question, innovate and aspire, there is no limit to what they can achieve.
As this very special anniversary year draws to a close, I feel immensely proud of all that we have accomplished together. We wish every member of our EHS family a restful and enjoyable summer break, and we look forward to welcoming you back as we begin the next exciting chapter in the story of our extraordinary school.
