As the first signs of Autumn begin to appear, our girls have triumphantly finished their first full week of the Autumn term - and it has certainly been a jam-packed one!
This week has seen so many firsts. For our Year Six girls it has been their first 'last day in Prep'! For our Reception girls (and their families) it has been their first full week of formal education and the beginning of their wonderful adventure. At this time of year, we often focus on the 'firsts'. But what makes teaching within a preparatory school such a privilege is that our days are filled with firsts...every day of the year.
Providing enriching, ambitious and creative ways for our girls to learn, ensures our pupils are well-prepared for the next stage of their educational journey. And we are incredibly proud to do just that - to prepare our girls for that next step. This weekend, more than half of our girls will sit the 11+ entrance examination. For these girls, this is a culmination of many years' preparation. But this will also be a first for these girls. The first time they have been independent of their parents and, for many, with their hopes and dreams heavy on their shoulders.
My advice to all of my girls when taking examinations is to 'take a breath'. We know our girls are well-prepared, but in the fast paced world within which we live, it is all too easy to forget to take time to stop, breathe and only then to work through the challenges we see before us. I hope our girls will do what they do best - to rise to the challenge, aim high and reach for the stars.
This week, I have seen girls demonstrating courage, excellence, inclusivity, responsibility, creativity, aspiration and perseverance; these EHS values have been in evidence in every corner of our school. I have seen girls being supported to overcome challenge, friendships being explored and formed and girls proudly adapting to new routines and expectations. After the long, leisurely Summer break, it has been wonderful to see the beating heart of the school back to full strength and, if this week has been anything to go by, we have an exciting and ambitious year ahead.
