French adventure for Year 6

19 May 2017

On Monday 8th May at the unearthly hour of 6.15am, 44 excited girls arrived at school ready for their long-awaited trip to France. After packing their luggage into the hold and shouting remarkably cheery goodbyes to their parents, we were off!

The first stop at a motorway services proved an exciting opportunity for all, this being their first taste of relative freedom! Numerous refreshments from Starbucks were consumed by girls and staff, providing a very welcome break. Upon our arrival in Dover, they were also thrilled to be some of the first to see a new mural by the street artist ‘Banksy’, which had appeared overnight on the side of a building!

Having survived a slightly rocky ferry crossing we later arrived at our destination, the Chateâu du Broutel in Rue. The girls were whisked away by Chateâu staff for a tour of the impressive grounds and of course to be taken to their dorms - possibly the most important part of the trip for some! After a hearty meal the girls took part in Chateau Olympic activities and Pétanque, wearing them out before settling into their rooms and finally going to bed.

During the course of the week the girls enjoyed taking part in a variety of adventurous activities including the Zip Wire, Blind Trail and Archery. Many were challenged to tackle something they had not done before and there were smiles of pride and achievement all round. In addition, there were trips to a French market, a snail farm and a wheat farm; a chance to make French mayonnaise; a visit to Berck beach; a Treasure hunt around the town of Rue and a chance to learn more about the incredible history of the Chateâu itself. To top it all off, the weather did us proud with beautiful sunshine every day. We even cracked open the sun cream!

A very successful and enjoyable trip was had by all. As always the girls represented the school extremely well and were complimented on their behaviour by both Chateâu staff and members of the public. Well done to all who attended and a big thank you to Mrs Bracey, Miss Dugdale, Miss Nelsey and Mrs Flitter who accompanied us.
