Support and advice at UCAS Week

16 June 2017

This week Year 12 students embarked on the process of applying for Higher Education. On Monday 12th June, they attended the Higher Education Convention at the NEC where all institutions were represented. The girls had the opportunity to talk to advisers and collect information on a range of courses.

On Tuesday evening, we welcomed Ruth Foster from the University of Birmingham who gave an extremely useful talk to parents and girls about the process of applying to university.

On Wednesday, Year 12 were off timetable all day. During the morning they had three sessions which comprised registering for UCAS, choosing university courses and writing personal statements. The girls were given advice on how to choose between 9,000 courses from 370 providers to ensure that they make the right decision. They had access to hard copies of all university prospectuses, IT facilities and staff on hand to answer individual questions. Key issues discussed included subject and university choice, open days and how to check important information regarding entry requirements. In the afternoon the girls enjoyed a stimulating talk on university life from a current University of Birmingham student.

This is an exciting time for the Year 12 students as they start to plan for their future with the help and advice of experienced staff.
