Prep Netball Team Are Tournament Winners!
22 April 2016
On Wednesday, the Year 6 Netball team played in the Birmingham Primary Schools Netball Tournament. In order to qualify for this tournament, teams had to finish in the top two places of their respective groups.
The first match was against St Bernadette's and the girls were a little apprehensive as they had not played together as a team since before the Easter break. EHS got off to a very quick start and instantly went 3-0 up. They were able to maintain this intensity for the full 8 minutes meaning the score at half time was 5-1 to EHS. However, in the second half it was St Bernadette's who got off to a quick start and the score after 4 minutes was 5-3 to EHS. The girls calmed down play and managed to re-gain control with the final score being 8-3 to EHS.
The second match was against Harborne Primary, the girls knew this would be tough but they were keen to demonstrate the skills they had learnt throughout the season. The first half was very frantic, with the defenders from both teams making plenty of interceptions - unfortunately EHS were unable to bring the ball down to their shooters and the score was 2-0 to Harborne at half time. After regrouping at half time, EHS were ready to come out fighting; a goal was scored within the first minute and EHS were able to maintain their much improved play for the whole half. The final score was 5-3 to EHS and the team were elated to have won the tournament.
The team members received a gold medal and certificate in the presentation at the end of the afternoon. Special mention must be given to Gracie Herbert and Miaa Buchanan who were both shortlisted for 'player of the tournament'.
