Friendly competition at Senior School Sports Day

30 June 2017

The Senior School Sports Day took place on Tuesday this week. The field events took place in the morning, before the track events and the mini Olympics and tug of war were contested in the afternoon in front of the whole of Senior School.

The P.E. department were thankful that the rain stayed away so the whole day went ahead as planned. Highlights from the morning include Olivia Gayle (Year 9) jumping 4m 40cm in the long jump, Gracie Herbert (Year 7) and Emma Henderson (Year 8) throwing over 16m in the discus and Louisa Maynard (Year 10) throwing 10m 55cm in the shot. Meanwhile, the high jump was very exciting: with each competitor only having seven jumps each, tactics started being employed with various girls ‘skipping’ the lower heights, with record numbers of girls - Izzy Birch, Aditi Baskar, Emma Henderson, Megan Hardiman, Lucie Carey, Ellie Hewison and Tulasi Parmar - clearing over 1m 15cm.

After the field events, the House captains decorated their House gazebos ready for judging in the afternoon. In the afternoon, Olivia Gayle (Year 9) successfully did the double, winning the 100m and 200m sprint races whilst Suki Ly was impressive in the racewalking event that was newly introduced this year. The final event of the day was the much anticipated staff vs sixth form tug of war that the staff won comfortably, 2 - 0.

Well done to all the girls who took part in this year’s event. Final results will be announced in the end of term sports assembly.
