Careers Round Up

22 October 2015

It has been another really busy term for the Careers department at EHS. We have offered a range of careers talks and workshops to all year groups. This has included Jo Haskins from Atkins Engineering, Dr Nigel Holt from the Psychology department of Aberystwyth University and a very inspiring assembly from Dr Nicky Edwards, consultant cardiologist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

We have also hosted a careers workshop with Capgemini which all Year 12 girls participated in. The challenge was to raise the media presence for a charity and all girls were focused and worked well in teams.

The workshop tutor Julie said  "A huge thank you to Edgbaston High School. The workshop went brilliantly and considering the girls had all been to a school sleepover the night before and not had much sleep their level of focus throughout the entire session was hugely impressive. So, an even bigger thank you to them for giving me their full attention and for just getting stuck in with the challenge. They were a fantastic bunch to work with and I genuinely loved all their ideas."

Congratulations go to the winning team who have gained a work experience day at the Capgemini headquarters. The team is Katie, Isabel, Rosie, Lily and Hannah. The runners up team were also very impressive and Capgemini have also offered them the chance to visit the organisation. The team consists of Jennifer, Le'shae, Nazanin, Alizae and Hannah.

Year 11 has also started their programme of careers education this term. All groups have completed their profile, had a careers session with Mrs Shutt and worked through a variety of activities with their form tutors and Head of Year. Careers advice was also offered at the recent sixth form information evening. Information about work experience has been sent to all Year 11 parents via email and any further questions can be emailed to

Individual careers interviews are available during lunchtime and other times by arrangement. Girls can email Mrs Shutt or sign up on the careers room form.

Careers talks coming soon:-

Any other interests please let Mrs Shutt know! Or if you feel you could offer a talk to the girls we would be most interested. Please email details to Mrs Shutt who will then be in touch.
