A record number of Junior Language Challenge Finalists from Edgbaston High School Preparatory!
On Wednesday 10 June, a record number of thirteen girls from Prep took part in the Live National Final of the Junior Language Challenge. Gurbani, Uthara & Noor S (Year Six), Falak, Inaayah C & Inaya I (Year Five), Ayana & Mariam N (Year Four) and Shahnoor, Denver, Ameerah, Zara and Razanne (Year Three) approached the final with real enthusiasm. After tackling Spanish and Arabic over the year, they dedicated their time to learning Penang Hokkien, from Malaysia, in the space of only five weeks.
Following qualification within the top thirty places in the country via a Kahoot challenge, the girls competed against other schools in the country via Zoom and Kahoot.
The challenge started with a warm-up round and the girls were in strong spirits. After a hard-fought 18-question battle, Noor S finished in third place and will receive £50 worth of Amazon vouchers as well as a year’s access to every language on UTalk language games (157 in total). Uthara and Gurbani finished in fourth and fifth respectively and the remainder within the top seventeen. A special mention to Denver in Year Three who finished in sixth place against many older pupils. This is such an amazing achievement for our girls. We are very proud of them all, representing EHS Prep impeccably. As they say in Penang Hokkien, ‘Kiong-hí!’ or Congratulations!
