There was no slowing down for Year 7 on the final day of half term as the entire year group gathered in The Octagon for the eagerly anticipated EHS Annual Spelling Bee.

Hosted by our very own Ms Jones-Owen and Miss Masterson, the event brought a fantastic mix of fun, competition, and linguistic challenge to end the term on a high note.

Competing in their house teams, students faced a series of quick-fire spelling challenges featuring some of the most commonly misspelled words in the UK. Each round tested not only their spelling skills but also their focus and composure under pressure.

The atmosphere was electric, cheers, gasps, and applause filled the room as each contestant stepped up to the microphone. Representatives from each house showed determination and teamwork, spurring on their teammates and making the competition one to remember.

After a tense final round, St Patrick House emerged triumphant, securing victory and proudly lifting the Spelling Bee Cup. Their sharp spelling skills and remaining calm under pressure earned them well-deserved bragging rights, at least until next year’s competition!

The event was not only an exciting way to round off the term but also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the students’ enthusiasm for language and learning.

A huge thank you goes to Ms Jones-Owen and Miss Masterson for organising and hosting the competition, and to all the Year 7 students for their energy, participation, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Congratulations once again to St Patrick House and well done to all who took part for making the Spelling Bee 2025 a truly buzzing success!
