The girls have returned to school refreshed and ready to make the most of an ambitious and creative curriculum this week.

I often share that the girls are the beating heart of our school and, with the half term break, this brought this once again to the forefront of my mind. Our girls are exceptional; they are fearless, brave and curious and their love of learning continues to bring joy to my every day. As we find ourselves in an increasingly unstable world, the importance of preparing our girls to become adults who are well placed to make a positive impact on those around them is more important than ever before. In my assembly this week, the focus was on kindness. Kindness to those around them but also the importance of being kind to themselves, particularly when faced with the stresses of the modern world. I shared a mantra with the girls:

We are fearless.

We are brave.

We will always be kind.

Kindness was certainly in evidence from our highly anticipated visit from Jungle Jonathan this week. Our Year Four girls were treated to a wonderfully immersive workshop to support their rainforest work. I was delighted to witness such thoughtful, curious questions from the girls and there was certainly courage at play as the girls met a, rather large, tarantula!

Mrs Sawyers has been delighted by the enthusiasm displayed by the girls with the EHS Prep runPudsey Challenge! The girls have been challenged to run, walk, scoot or cycle 2.6 miles to raise funds for Children in Need. At the time of writing, we have already raised more than £2000 which is a phenomenal achievement and we are so grateful to the entire EHS community for all of your support with this.

Many of our families will be celebrating Diwali over the next few days, so it is a really special time for these girls. The core message of Diwali is triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Rangoli patterns and beautiful light displays will bring joy to not only the Hindu, Sikh and Jainas families but to those around them. What I have relished is to see the girls demonstrating such respect for their friends who have different views to them, the curiosity from them as they ask their friends questions and the joy in sharing the special celebrations with others. Our girls are fearless, they are brave and they will always be kind.

We will continue to prepare our girls to be fearless females, ones who are brave enough to treat themselves and others with kindness, even when faced with adversity.

Happy Diwali.
