Two Sixth Form students recently enjoyed an inspiring visit to the Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art exhibition at the V&A South Kensington, the first major UK exhibition dedicated to the visionary designer Elsa Schiaparelli.
The exhibition explores Schiaparelli’s ground-breaking approach to fashion, showcasing her iconic Surrealist collaborations with artists including Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau, alongside contemporary designs from the fashion house today. Viewing extraordinary pieces such as the famous Skeleton Dress and Tears Dress gave the students a fascinating insight into how fashion can challenge conventions, tell stories and blur the boundaries between art and design.
The trip provided valuable inspiration for their own creative work, encouraging them to think boldly, experiment with ideas, and appreciate the powerful relationship between fashion, art and culture.
