Mrs Macro on How Edgbaston High School is Looking Ahead to Another Fantastic Year

The start of a new year always brings a sense of excitement and possibility. It is a time to reconnect with friends, embrace new opportunities and look ahead to all that can be achieved in the months to come. As we do so, it is also an opportunity to reflect on what has been an extraordinary year for our school.

Our 150th anniversary provided a wonderful moment to celebrate the rich history of EHS, to honour the generations of girls who have gone before us, and to reflect on the qualities that have defined this school for a century and a half. Yet one thing became very clear throughout those celebrations: whilst we are rightly proud of our heritage, EHS has always been a school that looks forward.

That forward-looking spirit continues to be reflected in our commitment to being Fearlessly Female. More than ever, young women need the confidence to think independently, challenge assumptions, embrace opportunity and make their voices heard. Our role is not simply to help our girls achieve excellent outcomes, but to empower them to lead purposeful, fulfilling lives and to make a positive difference in the world around them.

This year, we will continue to build on a range of exciting initiatives designed to support exactly that ambition. Through our Futures programme and Signature Pathways, including Ignite, Academic Advocacy and Girls With Goals, students are encouraged to discover their passions, develop their strengths and explore the possibilities that lie ahead. These programmes are helping our girls to develop not only knowledge and skills, but also the confidence and resilience that will serve them long after they leave EHS.

In my first assembly of the term, I shared the story of Eva: The Girl Who Dared to Imagine and spoke to the girls about the importance of imagination, curiosity and the courage to think differently. The future is created by those who dare to ask "What if?" and who are prepared to pursue the answer. That message feels particularly relevant as we begin this new year together. I hope our girls will approach the months ahead with ambition, curiosity and the confidence to embrace every opportunity that comes their way. 

There is much to look forward to over the coming year, and I am excited to see what our students will achieve. Thank you, as always, for your continued support of the school, and I look forward to welcoming you into school over the months ahead. Whether at concerts, productions, the school musical, parents' evenings, options events, sporting fixtures or the many other occasions that bring our community together, I hope you will enjoy sharing in the experiences, achievements and memories that make life at EHS so special.
