What an incredible Summer Term to round off a truly memorable academic year!
This week we said goodbye to our remarkable Year Six cohort. These girls are true testament to the educational experience we afford them within the walls of the Prep School. Each girl is ready for the next stage of their educational journey and I could not be more proud of the amazing individuals they have become. Academically, they have excelled with nearly half of our girls taking up places at various grammar schools in September. Others will take up scholarships at KEHS or remain with us at Edgbaston High School for Girls.
This time of year is always an emotional one for pupils, parents and staff alike. As teachers, we invest a great deal in the pupils in our care and so the end of the academic year is always a bitter sweet one. We know our girls are ready for the next stage, but as we bid farewell to our forms, we know we will miss the bonds forged during the year.
As I reach the end of my second year in post, I feel I now know all of the girls extremely well and, personally, I have found the leavers events for our Year Six cohort quite emotional. My Year Six cohort have achieved so much. They are brave, ambitious young women, well-placed to go on and do brilliant things. My hope is that they will keep in touch, but I know they will always have the EHS spirit at the heart of everything they do. I have been supported by an incredibly Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl team this year and Haneen and Sophie have left big boots to fill! The girls have planned to go out with a bang and, in their true individual style, they have planned an interactive final assembly!
Our Charity Fair on Wednesday was a wonderful example of pupil voice in action. The girls planned and delivered a wonderfully varied array of stalls and, due to the heatwave, there was no shortage of teachers willing to volunteer for the 'splat the teacher' stall! We managed to raise a huge amount of money for charity and have lots of fun along the way. My grateful thanks go to the staff and pupils for all of their efforts to make the afternoon such a success.
As the long Summer break looms, I would encourage all of my girls and their families to rest and recuperate. To read and read and read. To ride a bike and climb and tree. To spend time with family and to explore. To have at least one ice-lolly and to look forward with excitement for the wonderful start of the Autumn term in September. I know I am.
Have a wonderful break.
