For their penultimate lesson of the academic year, Year 10 Religious Studies groups had the privilege of being joined by Rev Jon Tattersall, vicar of St John’s Church in Harborne.

For a full double lesson students showed the full extent of their intellectual curiosity and enthusiastic engagement with all aspects of their studies as they grilled him with their questions.

Questions reflected the diverse nature of the course and included:

What’s the most rewarding part about being a vicar?
What would you say to God if you saw him?
Why would a perfectly loving God require a violent, blood-atonement (Jesus’ death) to forgive humanity, rather than simply choosing to forgive ?
Do you think it’s morally right for someone to be a trillionaire?
What are your beliefs on euthanasia?
Could you argue Christianity is homophobic?

The students did themselves proud in the way they asked such challenging questions in an honest and respectful tone, whilst Jon drew on all of his ministry experience to answer with both clarity and gentleness. Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to put their questions to a faith representative, and it brought much of our studies this year to life.
