This term saw the EHS community come together for the annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards, an evening dedicated to celebrating a year of outstanding sporting achievement across the school. This year’s event was particularly special, with even greater involvement from athletes in the Preparatory School, highlighting the strength and unity of sport across all age groups.

The evening opened with a powerful reflection on the school’s 150-year history. Archival photographs were brought to life, reminding students that those captured in them shared the same experiences of teamwork, resilience, and friendship. It was a poignant moment, illustrating how today’s students continue to build on this proud legacy while shaping the future of sport at EHS.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to EHS alumna Lucy Lloyd-Roach, whose remarkable swimming career exemplifies the very best of the school’s values. From her early days at EHS to competing at national and international level, she has achieved extraordinary success, including British records, world rankings, and record-breaking English Channel swims. Her journey is defined by resilience, determination, and an unwavering “no quit” attitude. Beyond her personal accomplishments, her dedication to coaching, mentoring, and community engagement continues to inspire others, reflecting the lasting impact of an EHS education.

The prestigious title of EHS Sports Personality of the Year was awarded to Aurelia Ehiogu in recognition of an exceptional season. Demonstrating outstanding resilience, she overcame multiple injuries to achieve personal bests at major competitions, including the Welsh and English Championships, where she competed among the top senior gymnasts in the country. Her courage and character were most evident following a heavy fall during competition; she remounted and completed her routine, perfectly capturing the perseverance and spirit that define sport at EHS.

The evening was a fitting celebration of dedication, achievement, and community, recognising not only individual excellence but also the collective commitment, teamwork, and determination that underpin sport at EHS.
