This summer term, Year 7 pupils enjoyed an exciting and enriching educational visit to the National Space Centre. The trip provided a fantastic opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of space science through a range of engaging, hands-on experiences.
Upon arrival, the girls took part in a fascinating workshop focused on living and working in space. They explored the challenges astronauts face in microgravity, including how they eat, sleep and carry out everyday tasks. The session also included elements of astronaut training, giving pupils a real insight into the demands of life beyond Earth.
A highlight of the day was a visit to the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium, the largest of its kind in the UK, where students experienced an immersive show about what it is like to be an astronaut. The 360-degree projection brought space exploration vividly to life and inspired great curiosity and enthusiasm among the group.
Following this, pupils had time to explore the centre’s interactive galleries. They encountered a wide range of exciting exhibits, including real rockets housed within the iconic Rocket Tower, such as the Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets. They also saw genuine space artefacts, including a piece of Moon rock and a collection of astronaut spacesuits, some of which have been worn on real missions.
The visit concluded with time spent climbing the impressive Rocket Tower, offering a close-up view of the towering rockets and a memorable end to a truly inspiring day.
This trip was a wonderful opportunity to bring classroom learning to life, and our Year 7 pupils returned full of excitement, curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the wonders of space exploration.
