Inspired by Christina Koch's incredible Artemis II mission, the girls have been challenged to reach for the stars this term.
It is only by encouraging and embracing challenge that pupils reach their true potential. Sadly, studies show that girls continue to seek perfection and will naturally protect themselves from failure by sitting themselves neatly within their comfort zone. Fortunately, at EHS Prep we know and understand how girls learn. We know that they are curious, we know they like to conform and we know that they often implement coping strategies to mask how they are really feeling. And, because we know girls, we can support them to channel their own unique strengths and truly challenge them academically, through encouraging independence, risk-taking and greater depth.
Christina Koch always knew she wanted to be an astronaut. She aimed high and pursued her dream. She is inspirational and talks candidly about the courage and curiosity required to become an astronaut. But she also speaks openly about her lack of confidence and that it was only through others believing in her that has helped her to truly achieve. Our EHS values encourage creativity and courage in equal measure. Brave, creative thinkers are the people who will be able to make a difference in their adult lives. With our Year Six girls embarking on their final term with us at EHS, I will watch their onward journeys with interest.
I know that every one of them has their own unique strength. That every one of them will leave EHS Prep as an individual, whether it to be to take up a place at Grammar School, to pursue a sports scholarship at OSH, to take up a coveted place at KEHS or to continue their journey into Edgbaston High School as a scholar or otherwise. I am incredibly proud of the journey my wonderful school is on.
So, with the daffodils blooming and the blossom scattering across our extensive grounds, I will continue to encourage our girls to be brave enough to follow their own paths. My staff will continue to stretch and challenge all of the girls and to believe in them. Because...it is amazing what can be achieved, in the right environment.
Have a wonderful weekend.
