Students from Years 10 to 13 studying Classics recently travelled to London for an exciting and immersive visit to the Pompeii Live.
The group took the train into the capital before continuing on the Elizabeth line to Custom House, ready for a day exploring the ancient world in a dynamic and interactive way.
At the exhibition, students stepped back in time through incredible 360-degree projections of Pompeii’s amphitheatre. These dramatic scenes brought history vividly to life, showcasing gladiatorial contests, animal fights, and even a spectacular staged sea battle. The experience enabled students to imagine what entertainment in ancient Rome may have looked and felt like.
The exhibition also featured a range of fascinating artefacts alongside detailed room sets that recreated everyday spaces from the ancient city. Students explored these immersive environments, gaining valuable insight into the daily lives of the people who once lived in Pompeii.
A particular highlight was the innovative interactive technology woven throughout the experience. Students enjoyed an AI photo booth, where they could see themselves reimagined in the ancient world, as well as a metaverse space and a virtual reality experience that allowed them to walk through Pompeii in an entirely new way.
The trip was both educational and highly enjoyable, giving students the opportunity to explore the ancient world from a modern perspective. It was a memorable day that brought classroom learning to life and deepened their understanding of Roman history.
