British Sign Language week highlights the importance of putting yourself in others' shoes.
At EHS Prep we are fortunate enough to have a wonderful Prep Languages Specialist, Mme Hennous whose passion for languages means that our girls immerse themselves in languages and culture from around the world. This week has been no exception and the girls have relished the opportunity to explore British Sign Language (BSL) and Deaf Culture.
We were honoured to be joined by Penelope and Violet from RGS Dodderhill to share their experiences in a special assembly. BSL is such a rich language and it was fascinating for the girls to find out about the importance of BSL for deaf children and the families of deaf children. I was fortunate enough to teach both Penelope and Violet when I was at RGS and I was incredibly proud to see how confidently they led the assembly. Our EHS Prep girls have relished the opportunity to learn a new language and we hope to build on this knowledge in the weeks and months ahead.
Friday has seen staff and pupils 'doing something funny for money' in support of Comic Relief. The classrooms and corridors have been filled with even more smiles and laughter than usual and Miss Robinson and I took to the Kindergarten trikes to kick off our Celebrating Success assembly, to peels of laughter! We know our girls are incredibly privileged but it is joyful to see how keen they are to support those less fortunate than themselves.
As many families within our community and around the world celebrate Eid, I would like to wish our entire EHS community a safe, happy and healthy weekend.
Eid Mubarak
