EHS embraces the joy and togetherness of the festive season. Here’s a small snapshot of the celebrations, community spirit and Christmas cheer that filled our school this term.
Christmas Carol Service at St George’s Church
On Tuesday 9 December, our school community gathered at the beautiful St George’s Church for our annual Christmas Carol Service. The setting provided the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of music, reflection, and festive cheer.
The choir and congregation sang beloved carols, including Once in Royal David’s City and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, while the choir’s moving rendition of Ubi Caritas showcased exceptional talent. Younger students performed with impressive confidence, adding to the joy of the occasion.
Readings by students and staff offered thoughtful pauses, reminding everyone of the season’s true meaning and the importance of caring for others. The service concluded on a high note with Joy to the World, leaving all uplifted and united.
We are grateful to St George’s Church, Ms J Uff, the music department, and all involved in planning this cherished tradition, which continues to bring our community together in festive celebration.

Senior House Gala
Our Christmas term came to a wonderful close with another energetic and fun-filled House Gala. As part of our 150th birthday celebrations, each house was invited to take a musical journey through the past, choosing a theme from the last six decades (we decided not to stretch it to all 15!). Alongside this, every performance had to reflect the school’s core values: Courage, Creativity, Aspiration, Perseverance, Responsibility, Excellence, and Inclusivity.
As always, the leadership team hosted the event, this year bringing plenty of smiles with their Teletubbies-inspired theme. The competition was incredibly close, with each house showcasing the amazing results of a full term’s hard work, preparation, and rehearsal. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the end of term and our milestone year together.
And the winner is...St George!

Festive Knits & Christmas Nibbles
Christmas Jumper Day and our festive school lunches brought a burst of colour and cheer to the end of term. Pupils and staff arrived in an array of bright knits, from classic reindeer and sparkling snowflakes to jingling elves and light-up Santas, filling the corridors with laughter and seasonal spirit.
The celebrations continued in the dining hall, where a traditional Christmas lunches, complete with crackers, festive music and plenty of excitement, made the occasion feel truly special. It was a joyful moment of togetherness, marking the perfect start to the holiday season.

Prep Seasonal Celebration and Nativity
There’s something truly special about celebrating Christmas with our youngest pupils, and this year they shone brightly in the Prep Seasonal Celebration and Nativity. Their confidence and joy on stage made us incredibly proud.
