Chess is growing in popularity at EHS Prep and our new After School Chess Club has proven to be extremely popular.

Inspired by our wonderful Chess Master, Nick Thomas, Jashvita, who is currently in Year Five demonstrated courage by taking part in the 2025 Warwickshire Junior Chess Championship (Under 10) held on Sunday 25 November. This was her very first external chess tournament, and it proved to be an incredibly valuable and inspiring experience for her.

The tournament began at 10am and concluded around 5pm, with a short break between each of the seven rounds. Each round offered a new opportunity to learn and adapt, testing not only her chess skills but also her concentration and stamina over a full day of play. Jashvita entered the tournament ranked 39th out of 39 participants and finished in 37th place, scoring 2 points, one from a bye and one from a hard-fought win against a more experienced opponent.

Her competitors included players from Hallfield, Blue Coat Harborne, Warwick, and Chad Vale, many of whom had significantly higher ratings. Facing such strong opponents has already made her more determined to study and grow.

Since returning, she has been eager to reflect on her games and identify ways to improve. It has been wonderful to see her enthusiasm, resilience, and analytical thinking develop through the whole experience and we cannot wait to see what she does next.
