In the early hours of Friday 20 March 2026, 21 students studying GCSE and A-Level Spanish, accompanied by Mr Flox, Mr Dawlatly and Miss Thaper, departed from EHS to catch a flight from Bristol Airport to Madrid, before transferring to the historic university city of Salamanca.

After a long journey, the group arrived in Salamanca in the early afternoon, where students met their host families for the first time, an excellent opportunity to begin building relationships and practising their Spanish. Following their first afternoon activity, a Photo Rally around the city, everyone was ready for a well-earned early night with their hosts.

On Saturday morning, students attended intensive Spanish lessons at the LOLA Language School. After lunch with their host families, they took part in a wide range of cultural activities, including a guided tour of Salamanca, a flamenco dancing lesson, karaoke, a visit to the cathedral, a tapas tour, and a Spanish cooking lesson. One morning also featured a traditional Spanish breakfast of chocolate con churros, which proved to be a firm favourite among the group. A particular highlight of the trip was the celebration of Lana’s birthday, which was made even more special by a surprise visit from our very own Srta. López, who travelled from Barcelona to spend time with the group.

On Sunday 22 March, students enjoyed a day trip to the stunning natural region of Sierra de Francia. Here, they visited the picturesque villages of Mogarraz and La Alberca, both renowned for their beautifully preserved historic buildings and unique character.

In the early hours of Friday 27 March, the group departed Salamanca for Madrid and began their journey home. They arrived back at school in the early afternoon, feeling understandably tired but delighted after a rewarding and memorable week immersed in Spanish language and culture.

The Salamanca trip was a great success, and we are already looking forward to organising a return visit to the LOLA Language School next Easter. Our sincere thanks go to all the students for their enthusiasm and positivity throughout the trip, and especially to Mr Dawlatly and Miss Thaper for their invaluable support in making this experience such a success for everyone.
