This years House Bake Off is celebrating 150 years of EHS, with pupils across the school demonstrating enthusiasm, creativity and a high standard of baking throughout the competition.

On Wednesday 4 February, Year 9 launched the competition with Time Capsule Tray Bakes, incorporating items that might be found in a time capsule from 1876. Nia and Emma were victorious for St George with their impressive marble cake, featuring a swirl of chocolate and vanilla and centred around a Girls With Goals theme.

The competition continued on Thursday, with Year 8 taking over the kitchen to bake cupcakes representing different decades of the school’s history. Elodie and Jemima secured first place for St Francis, delighting judges with a variety of cupcake flavours and thoughtful designs that truly took us down memory lane.

Friday saw another success for St Francis, thanks to Josie in Year 7. Her delicious shortbread biscuits illustrated how the school uniform has developed over time and perfectly captured the theme “Dress the Biscuit.”

The House Bake Off is just one of our annual traditions that has been transformed into a spectacular celebration for the school's 150th Birthday, reminding us of the fantastic achievements of the girls who have walked through the corridors of EHS in times gone by.

This week saw an exciting showcase of creativity and skill as students across the year groups took part in our much-anticipated baking competition.

On Monday 9 February, Year 10 proudly kicked off the week by taking over baking duties. Representing St. David, Naomi and Emefa impressed the judges with their stunning two-tiered creation. Their bake perfectly captured the Excellence Book theme, featuring a rich chocolate base topped with an elegant tiramisù crêpe cake. Their outstanding effort earned them the win for their house.

Thursday belonged to Year 11, who were challenged to bake something inspired by their favourite subjects. St. Andrew claimed victory thanks to Eva and Summer, whose beautifully crafted pencil and paintbrush Swiss roll wowed the judges. Filled with homemade blueberry jam and inspired by their love of Art lessons, their bake was as creative as it was delicious.

The Sixth Form brought the student competition to a spectacular close with impressive showstoppers in honour of the school’s 150th birthday celebration. Elisa and Holly from St. Francis secured the top score for St. Patrick with a wonderful raspberry and white chocolate sponge, thoughtfully decorated to reflect the school values.

A huge well done to all of our talented bakers for making it such a fantastic week of baking.

We’ll have to wait a little longer for the final results, as the fiercely competitive staff take on their turn this Friday. Stay tuned for more updates! Currently, Francis are in the lead!
