At EHS Prep, we place a great deal of importance on developing positive relationships between staff, pupils and parents and this week I have been struck by how key these relationships are in supporting the whole child.

Sharing my lunch in the Dining Hall with a group of Year Five girls this week was such a joy. It was an opportunity to delve a little deeper into their likes and dislikes both in and outside school, to listen as they discussed how they have overcome challenges and to witness the supportive nature of their peer relationships.

Our passionate and nurturing staff provide the girls with a plethora of unique and stimulating opportunities, from our youngest girls creating dinosaur eggs in the sand to Year Four carrying out surveys in French and Year Five expanding and developing their use and understanding of ambitious vocabulary. But, for an education to have a positive impact on pupil progress, we must ensure the girls are engaged and willing to challenge themselves.

I am incredibly proud of the way my staff encourage the girls to be independent right from an early age, using special tips and tricks to put on their coats and endeavour to do up their zips. Our Big Termly Brainwave has been a great hit with the girls and we are looking forward to finding out how Mrs Pavlovic will be challenging the girls this term. This week, many of our girls have been involved in sports fixtures against other independent schools. On the netball courts, the girls showed determination and teamwork in their fixture against Blue Coat School, with some great scores across the board. We hosted the first Swimming Gala of 2026 and were delighted to welcome Norfolk House to school for some friendly competition. The girls swam brilliantly, demonstrating the stamina and strength they have developed through significant training opportunities within school.

As we approach the weekend, I would encourage families to continue to talk to their daughters about making the most of every opportunity and striving to be the best that they can be. My teaching staff are committed to provide the best possible educational experience  for the pupils in their care and through my weekly learning walks, I certainly encourage them to be reflective and look at ways to develop and improve their  practice – even when they are at the top of their game! I firmly believe that if we are to properly prepare our girls for the next stage of their educational journey, then we must support them so that they are brave enough to challenge themselves and well-placed to go out into the world as ‘fearless females’!

Have a super weekend.
