As we reach the end of this first half term, I am filled with pride and admiration for the remarkable energy, creativity, and resilience shown by our girls—from our tiniest explorers in Nursery to our confident leaders in Year Six.
This week, the Prep Hall has come alive with a powerful exhibition, 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride' to mark Black History Month. Every pupil from Nursery to Year Six has had the opportunity to learn more about the powerful contributions made by black, British people and each year group has embraced their project in their own, unique way.
From our Nursery girls immersing themselves in the wonderful world of Floella Benjamin to Year Five who have explored the dynamic and impactful work of Edward Enninful as the editor of British Vogue and Year Six who discovered the bravery and perseverance of Lilian Bader during the Second World War, the girls have explored and celebrated people who have broken barriers, challenged injustice and inspired change. They have explored stories of triumph and struggle and reflected on the hope that a more positive journey lies ahead.
The exhibition is more than just a display; it is a testament to the voices of our girls. The wonderful Audrey Pantelis, our EDI Advisor, has continued to guide and support staff and pupils both with our curriculum and more broadly in relation to equality, diversity and inclusivity. We are fortunate to have a wonderfully diverse school community and love the opportunity to celebrate and embrace the different cultures that make up our incredible school.
Black History Month is a significant month, a chance to honour the achievements, contributions and history of black people in Britain, but the work does not stop here. We will continue to support and educate the girls so that they are well-placed for life in modern Britain, with an understanding of events of the past and a hopeful, kind and supportive move into the future. The work to create this week's exhibition has shown us that even the youngest of our girls have something to say - and the confidence to say it. They have asked questions, shared ideas and created work that speaks of hope, strength and unity.
This half term our girls have embraced and overcome challenges. We have seen girls wrestle with new concepts, navigate friendships, and stretch themselves in ways that demand courage. But we have also seen triumphs—quiet moments of perseverance, joyful breakthroughs, and the kind of growth that only comes from trying, failing, and trying again.
As we approach the half term break, I want to remind our girls—and their families—that rest is not a luxury, but a necessity. It is in rest that we recharge, reflect, and ready ourselves for the next adventure. I would encourage all of our girls to use the break as a time to pause, to play and to be present with loved ones.
To every girl in our Prep School: you are fearless, you are capable, and you are deeply valued. We cannot wait to see what you will do next.
With warmest wishes
Mrs N Hobson
