This week, in Prep, the girls have had opportunities galore. Whether it be utilising our expansive outdoor space, immersing themselves in our indoor swimming pool or collaborating in the classroom. It has been wonderful to see our EHS values in action.

Making a splash!

Nursery have made a splash this week as they began their swimming lessons! The girls were so brave during their first session and approached the pool with smiles and excitement. We started by encouraging independence while getting changed, supporting the girls to keep their belongings safely in their bags. We also talked about the importance of careful listening to instructions at the poolside and in the water. The girls showed great courage throughout the session, and we cannot wait to see their confidence continue to grow as the weekly, timetabled sessions go on.

Up up and away!

The Kindergarten pupils have been learning about the letter ‘k’ this week. There has been a new song to sing and a new letter formation rhyme to learn about Kieran the kind kid. The staff were delighted by the range of objects on the ‘sound of the week’ table which has featured ketchup, kittens, kangaroos, keys and much more. The pupils have relished the opportunity to create their own kite this week. First, they chose tissue paper to add to a wooden frame and carefully attached this. Next, they had a choice of strings, ribbon and bows with which to make a tail.  Once all kites were complete, a test flight took place!  Well done, Kindergarten!

Musical compositions

This week in music, Reception children enjoyed a fun and imaginative lesson inspired by the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Using a range of instruments, the children brought the story to life through sound. As the story was retold, the children listened carefully for story prompts and played their instruments at the right moments. They worked hard to control their playing, stopping and starting together and responding to changes in the story. This helped them practise excellent listening and concentration skills. The children also explored dynamics, experimenting with playing quietly and loudly. Soft, gentle sounds were used as the goats tiptoed across the bridge, while much louder sounds represented the fearsome troll! The children really enjoyed changing the volume of their playing to match the action. Throughout the lesson, the children played alongside others, learning how to make music as part of a group and being aware of each other’s sounds. It was wonderful to see their confidence, teamwork and musical understanding grow. A fantastic musical adventure!

Shape detectives

Year One have been learning all about 3D shapes this week. They have been learning the names of the shapes and exploring their properties. We challenged the girls to build using a variety of 3D shapes. The girls were very creative and built farms, rockets, castles, cake shops, hotels and even an ice cream van using the range of 3D shapes on offer. We have asked the girls to look around at home and become detectives by spotting the 3D shapes they can see in the real world.

British explorers

This week, Year Two have been setting off on a Geography adventure as they explored the United Kingdom. The girls have been learning about the four countries that make up the UK and discovering the names of their capital cities, all while having great fun along the way. Armed with maps, atlases and digital mapping tools, the girls eagerly investigated where places are and how they can be shown in different ways. There was lots of excitement as they spotted familiar locations, compared maps and asked thoughtful questions about what they could see. Their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning really shone through. It has been a joy to see how much the girls have enjoyed developing their geographical skills, building their knowledge of the UK and exploring the world beyond the classroom. Well done, Year Two.

Storytellers in action

Year Three have been learning the art of storytelling. They explored a six-step ‘recipe for telling a story’: Who, Where, The Problem, Friend or Help, Journey and The End. Working in groups, the girls collaborated to create their own stories, with just two minutes to brainstorm ideas for each step. Once they had created a simple story outline, the girls developed their work further in English lessons by adding action, emotions and vivid descriptions. Throughout the process, they showed excellent teamwork, cooperation and perseverance. The girls thoroughly enjoyed performing their stories to their peers and parents during a special assembly, sharing their creativity and confidence with pride.

The Art of "Muay Thai"

Year Four pupils have been stepping into something new this half term, as Muay Thai has been introduced in their PE lessons. Known as the “art of eight limbs”, Muay Thai has given children the chance to develop coordination, balance and self-discipline while learning exciting new skills. During the sessions, pupils have been practising basic techniques, footwork and controlled movements. The focus has been on fitness, confidence and respect, rather than competition. The children have embraced the experience with enthusiasm, showing excellent focus and determination. Well done, girls!

Weather investigators

Year Five pupils swapped their classroom for outdoors this week as they put their geography skills into action by investigating local weather conditions. Using anemometers, the children measured wind speed and applied their understanding of the Beaufort Scale to describe what they observed. They also studied cloud cover, carefully identifying different cloud types and linking them to weather patterns. The outdoor classroom on the playground provided the perfect setting for the girls to consolidate their learning through hands-on, real-world observation.

Year Six Investigate Bias in News Reporting

This week in Year Six , pupils took part in exciting and thought-provoking English lessons exploring bias in news reporting through a modern retelling of 'The Three Little Pigs'. Using a short video clip as a stimulus, the children discussed how the same event can be presented in very different ways depending on viewpoint and language choices. Working collaboratively, pupils took on the role of journalists, debating which details to include, which to leave out and how bias can subtly influence a reader’s opinion. They planned and wrote newspaper reports, carefully considering tone, structure and grammatical features such as subordinate clauses and reported speech. The lesson stretched pupils to think critically about truth, perspective and reliability, while developing their speaking, listening and writing skills. The quality of discussion and teamwork was impressive, with pupils confidently justifying their choices like real reporters.
