Snowman Skittles!

Nursery have had lots of fun this week as they enjoyed taking part in a variety of festive games. Two particular favourites have been snowman skittles and pass the parcel. The girls have listened carefully to instructions and shown great patience as they took turns. It has been a wonderful opportunity for them to engage positively with one another, offering encouragement and cheering each other on in their efforts. Their growing teamwork has been lovely to see!

Season to Season

We are so lucky that our school is located next door to Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens. The Kindergarten pupils love to visit and enjoy observing how the gardens change from season to season.  The excellent playgrounds are also appealing: it’s lovely to see the girls’ confidence using the different apparatus whilst being treated to pretend pizza from the wooden houses!  During our recent visit we spent some calm time in the Japanese garden, admiring the National Bonsai Collection and listening to the wind chimes, and the pupils discovered some colourful minibeasts and glittery disco balls which are part of the visiting light show.  The pupils and staff are already looking forward to their next visit!

A Lively Theatre Trip

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre to watch Anansi, a lively and imaginative production inspired by the traditional West African Anansi tales. From the moment the lights dimmed, the children were captivated. The show was filled with vibrant storytelling, colourful costumes and catchy music that had everyone joining in. The lively and playful characters brought the mischievous spider Anansi to life, teaching the children about kindness, clever thinking and the importance of working together. Our pupils were brilliant ambassadors for our school throughout the trip. Many of them shared how much they enjoyed the afternoon, with favourites ranging from the energetic songs to Anansi’s cheeky attempts to outsmart the other animals!

Flurry of Festive Crafts

Year One have leapt into the Christmas spirit this week with a flurry of festive crafts to finish the term. Our classroom doors have come to life with cheerful snowmen, and we’ve created colourful Christmas cards to share with our families. The windows are sparkling with newly decorated penguins and snowmen too! The girls have absolutely loved getting creative and delightfully messy, as we prepare for the holidays.

The Busy Bethlehem Show

We are delighted to share the wonderful success of our Pre-Prep production of The Busy Bethlehem Show, which for the first time brought together every child from Nursery through to Year Two in one magical performance in the Octagon. It was truly special to see our youngest learners join forces and shine so brightly on stage. From the moment the music started, the children captivated everyone in the Octagon with their energy and enthusiasm. They sang their songs with confidence and joy, remembering all the words and actions beautifully. The youngest Nursery pupils impressed us with their focus and bravery, embracing their roles with genuine enthusiasm.

A particular highlight was how our Year 2 class stepped up to act, carrying the story with poise and care. Their confidence, expressiveness and teamwork were a joy to watch.  They brought the play to life, supporting one another and making the narrative engaging for everyone present. Watching them move and sing together, clearly enjoying every moment, filled the Octagon with warmth and pride. For the family and friends watching, it was a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable experience. The pride on the children’s faces, and the applause they received, spoke volumes.  This production will become a treasured memory for our school community.  Well done girls!

Dental Care

This term, Year Three have been learning all about teeth in their Science lessons. They have explored the different types of human teeth, how they compare to those of various animals and how our teeth change as we grow older. This week, the girls enjoyed a special visit from Dr Jaz, a dentist, and Laiba, a dental nurse, from Mango Tree Dental in Moseley, who spoke to them about how to care for their teeth and prevent tooth decay. The children discovered the functions of each type of tooth and why good dental hygiene is so important. As part of the session, the girls had the exciting opportunity to put on gloves and masks and use mirrors to role-play as dentists. At the end of the visit, each pupil received a goody bag filled with helpful items and information to support them in looking after their teeth.

Festive Party Time!

Year Four have had a wonderfully festive week filled with seasonal activities and plenty of laughter. The highlight was undoubtedly our Christmas party, where pupils worked hard to follow instructions as they drew festive images… all balanced on top of their heads! This was followed by lively rounds of musical statues and a Christmas-themed ‘Would You Rather’, with most pupils deciding they would much prefer to eat candy canes for a year rather than gingerbread. Alongside the celebrations, the girls also spent time completing seasonal crafts, showing great creativity and enthusiasm. It has been a joyful week in Year Four and the children thoroughly enjoyed the festivities of their Christmas party and the build-up to the end of term.

Elementary, My Dear Watson

Year Five have been having a fantastic build up to the Christmas holiday season. The trip to the Birmingham Rep to see Sherlock Holmes and the 12 Days of Christmas was a great success and kept everyone guessing right up until the end! The girls were a pleasure to take and thoroughly enjoyed the cupcakes during the interval that our super EHS kitchen Staff had provided. Christmas Jumper Day and the festive walk to look at all the classroom doors has started the last full day off brilliantly – it has proven to be very hard to select favourites! We are looking forward to a rest and wish everyone a happy holiday!

Snowflake Fractions

This week, our Year Six pupils took part in a Snowflake Fraction Estimation activity that combined creativity with mathematical thinking. Each child created a paper snowflake with different sections cut away and was challenged to estimate what fraction of the original shape had been removed. To do this, they needed to use clear reasoning, precise mathematical language and well-structured explanations to justify their ideas. The activity encouraged children to think deeply about fractions while also developing confidence in sharing and discussing their reasoning with others.
