Part Two of Prep STEAM Week: Space! and Female STEM Heroes
Posted on: 30 Jan 2026
Last week, we shared the first half of our Prep STEAM Week celebrations, highlighting the exciting learning that took place from Monday to Wednesday—from problem-solving escape rooms and water-wise workshops to plant science and fairytale engineering. The week was packed with curiosity, creativity and collaboration, and there was still so much more to come. This week, we are delighted to share the highlights from Thursday’s Space Day and our inspiring celebration of female STEM heroes on Friday.

Thursday – Space Day: Reaching for the Stars!
Thursday’s Space Day was an action-packed and truly awe-inspiring experience for girls from Nursery right through to Year Six. All pupils took part in an interactive space show inside a mobile planetarium, where they explored objects visible in this month’s night sky, visited the International Space Station and learned about the incredible robots currently exploring Mars. Our Keystage 2 girls particularly enjoyed their PrimeVR workshop, travelling virtually to different planets and our Moon. The immersive experience brought the sheer scale of the universe to life and was enormous fun—especially with a surprise guest appearance at the end of the session!
Elsewhere, Reception girls were wonderfully busy with a wide range of space-themed investigations. They built rockets for astronaut Mae Jemison while Year Five explored factors affecting meteorite crater sizes. Other year groups constructed scale models of the Solar System using toilet paper and learned about the dangers of space junk through practical simulations using Pringle crisps. Our girls also produced beautiful artwork inspired by nebulas and used computer simulations to investigate the damage different types of meteorites could cause when crashing into various parts of our planet. It was a jam-packed, exciting and hugely inspiring day.
Friday – Celebrating Female STEM Heroes
STEAM Week concluded on Friday with each year group learning about an inspirational female STEM hero. Year Two focused on Joan Procter, a pioneering British herpetologist who transformed the way reptiles were studied and cared for, and who designed revolutionary habitats for creatures such as Komodo dragons. Inspired by Joan’s determination to overcome both long-term illness and gender discrimination, the girls designed their own Komodo dragon habitats and learned more about these fascinating animals.
Year Five explored the work of Jane Goodall, the world-renowned primatologist whose groundbreaking research transformed our understanding of chimpanzee behaviour and conservation. Inspired by her lifelong commitment to protecting wildlife and the environment, the girls identified different chimpanzee behaviours, learned new facts about these amazing animals and each created an eco pledge to help continue Jane Goodall’s important legacy.
STEAM Week was a celebration of curiosity, courage and creativity—and a powerful reminder of what our girls can achieve when they are inspired to explore, question and imagine.
