Fruity flavours!
This week in Nursery the girls have been focussing on the things they can smell and taste. They explored some fruits in their whole form, identifying the different colours they could see and whether they could name each one before the tasting commenced. It was wonderful to see all our girls so keen to try each fruit that was offered to them – kiwi, mango, pineapple, plum, banana and lemon; some brought smiles while others left sour faces! Either way, the girls were clear and confident in expressing their likes and dislikes.
Terrific t-shirts!
This week the Kindergarten pupils have been focussing on the letter 't'. They brought in some terrific items from home to share with their classmates including toast, turtles, trains, a tractor and three Tyrannosaurus Rex! Following the 't' theme, the pupils have each had the opportunity to create their own tie dye t-shirt! They carefully chose the colours they wanted and enjoyed squeezing the paint over the white t-shirts. They are so pleased with the finished products which they are bringing home to wear.
Growing our brains!
This week in Reception, girls have been learning all about how to look after their brains. Brains help us to learn, play and make good choices, so it is important to take care of them. The girls created cloud mobiles, each hanging star contained an idea of what they could do before bed to ensure a good night’s sleep. We also held mindfulness sessions both inside and outside of the classroom where girls were encouraged to focus on listening to music and the natural world around them along with breathing techniques to keep them calm and relaxed.
Exploring the Local Environment
As part of the Year One Geography topic on learning about the local environment, the Year One girls enjoyed a sunny walk around the EHS school grounds. Each girl brought along her own map to follow carefully, making sure not to get lost! They began their adventure in the exciting new outdoor classroom before following a route past the willow tree, the swimming pool, Westbourne and the Senior School, all the way back to Prep. The girls were incredibly proud of themselves for following their maps so well. They did not get lost once! It was a wonderful opportunity to practise real-life map-reading skills, and it is safe to say we have some mini geographers in the making!
Swimming superstars!
Year Two have loved being back in the swimming pool for their weekly lessons. The children have been full of enthusiasm as they practise swimming on their front and back, focusing on building confidence and improving their technique. They have also been working hard on their streamline position, gliding through the water with growing skill. It has been wonderful to see their determination, teamwork and big smiles each week.
Roman adventurers
Year Three enjoyed the opportunity to immerse themselves in their learning this week as they travelled to Lunt Roman Fort for a day of adventure.
Gymnastic sequences
This week, in Gymnastics lessons, our Year Four pupils have worked on developing their fundamental movement skills through a range of activities involving rolls, balances, and jumps. The lessons aimed to improve body control, coordination, and confidence in performing basic gymnastics sequences. Pupils practised Teddy rolls, T rolls, Pencil jumps, Tuck jumps and balances maintaining stillness using their core muscles. Most pupils demonstrated good progress in their ability to perform controlled movements. A few needed additional support with rolls and maintaining balance, but showed determination and improvement throughout the lesson. Great work, girls!
Bringing history to life
This week, Year Five have been investigating the Gunpowder Plot — exploring how it happened, who was involved, and the politics surrounding it. The girls took on the roles of key figures from the time and used freeze frames to bring important moments in the story to life. They worked together to order eight key events, showing how the plot developed step by step. Their enthusiasm shone through, and through this activity they gained a much deeper understanding of this dramatic moment in history.
Creative ceramicists
Year Six pupils have been carrying out an exciting research task about Clarice Cliff, a famous Staffordshire ceramicist, learning about her life and the significance of her work. The girls’ studies of her ceramicware have aided their understanding of her unique style - especially how she used bold colours, eye-catching patterns and clever arrangement of designs on her pieces. They have worked hard to critique ceramic work, developing their use of subject-specific vocabulary. As part of the design exploration aspect of their artwork, the girls have practised replicating the elements used by the ceramicist in their own sketches, aiming to capture the adventurous spirit of Clarice Cliff’s work. The next steps in their work will include design development where they will use their research and sketches to prepare a bold, adventurous design for a ceramic piece of their own creation. They are very much looking forward to transferring their design ideas to air-dry clay, experimenting with shaping and decorating to create a unique, ceramic-style artwork inspired by Clarice Cliff!
