As we come to the end of a truly memorable term, I am filled with pride for everything our Music and Performing Arts community has achieved.

This term has been full of creativity, courage and teamwork, and it has highlighted not only the incredible talent of our pupils but also the strong, supportive identity we share as a department.

We opened the term with our Remembrance Assemblies for both the Prep and Senior Schools. These thoughtful and moving occasions set a reflective tone, reminding us of how music can honour memories, unite people and give expression to feelings that words alone cannot capture.

From there, the term was filled with events that showcased the enthusiasm and dedication of our young performers. The Prep Teatime Concerts offered two delightful afternoons where our youngest musicians performed with confidence and charm. Whether they were playing their very first pieces or tackling more advanced music, every performer showed impressive growth and a real sense of achievement.

Our musicians also played a key part in the Year 12 Awards Ceremony, providing a beautiful musical backdrop that celebrated our Sixth Form students with style. Soon after, the Senior Performing Arts Spotlight event brought dancers, actors and musicians together for an evening bursting with originality, expression and artistry across all disciplines.

As Christmas approached, the festive spirit lit up our school. The Senior Christmas Concert filled the Octagon with warmth, while the Prep Seasonal Celebration brought families together for songs full of joy and humour. Our Early Years Nativity, as always, was a heart-warming reminder of the magic of storytelling through music, complete with enthusiastic performances from our youngest pupils.

We now look forward to the Senior Carol Service, another chance to come together as a community and enjoy the beauty of tradition, harmony and reflection as we close a busy and vibrant term.

None of this would be possible without the teamwork, care and commitment shown by everyone involved. My heartfelt thanks go to the Music Department staff for their tireless dedication in supporting, challenging and celebrating every child. I am also deeply grateful to our Visiting Music Teachers and LAMDA tutors, whose expertise and encouragement help pupils grow in confidence and find their voices, both on stage and beyond.

This term has reminded me of the strong sense of identity within our department. Music at EHS is so much more than a subject. It is a place where pupils feel safe to explore, to express themselves and to take creative risks. It is a space where individuality is celebrated, excellence is nurtured and personal growth is just as important as performance.

To all our performers, whether you played on stage, sang in a choir, practised quietly in a practice room, or picked up an instrument for the very first time, thank you. You are the heartbeat of this department.

Wishing you all a peaceful, joyful and well-deserved holiday. I look forward to another inspiring term of music-making ahead.
