It’s been a fun and action-packed week in Pre-Prep and Prep, with a range of exciting activities aimed at sparking creativity, curiosity and confidence. Take a look what we have been up to this week.
Mud Kitchen Creations
The Nursery girls have already settled in well to the school environment and have enjoyed exploring all resources and areas available to them. They showed particular enjoyment as they headed out into the mud kitchen to produce all sorts of wonderful creations; pine-cone soup and mud cakes to name a couple! It was a great opportunity for the girls to practise their motor skills as they poured, scooped and stirred whilst also beginning to communicate and play with their new peers.
Physical Education in Action
Kindergarten pupils have greatly enjoyed their Physical Education lessons this week. Mrs Hewison visits to teach dance, Mrs Sawyers teaches Games and Balanceability and Mrs Dawes and Mrs Roberts are the swimming teachers. The pupils put movements to music in Dance whilst developing their listening skills. Mrs Sawyers taught the pupils new exercises, their favourite of which was the ‘spotty dog’. The swimming teachers were so impressed by the Kindergarten pupils’ water confidence! They enjoyed playing ‘Ring a Ring a Roses’ in the water. Keep up the fantastic work Kindergarten!
Fruitful Faces in Reception!
Reception girls have been exploring the colourful and imaginative artwork of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the Italian painter famous for creating portraits made entirely of fruits, vegetables and flowers. His playful approach to portraiture sparked the children’s creativity and they were eager to try it out for themselves! Armed with paintbrushes, vibrant colours and plenty of inspiration, the children set about designing their very own fruit faces. Each child carefully thought about how everyday fruit could be transformed into parts of the face. From strawberry cheeks to banana smiles and grape hair, their paintings burst with personality and humour.
Year One’s Great Prep School Adventure!
Year One have been busy little explorers, setting off on a very important mission — to find their way around the Prep School! As part of their Geography lessons, the girls went on a grand tour, visiting all sorts of exciting places: The Prep Hall, Mrs Williams’ Office, The Medical Room, The Science Lab, The Computer Suite and Mrs Hobson’s Office. But the most exciting stop? The Staff Room! They sat on the comfy chairs and felt oh-so-grown-up, they quite liked pretending to be teachers for a moment! To help them remember where everything is, we came up with a very smart idea: Our school is like a sandwich! There are three levels — two slices of bread with all the fun, learning and giggles in the middle. Yum!
A sense-ational start to Science in Year Two
The Year Two girls began their new Science topic with an exciting exploration of the five senses. They learned about how each sense helps their body to experience the world and enjoyed sharing their favourite smells, sounds, sights, textures and tastes with the class. The activity sparked lots of lively discussion and it was fascinating to notice both similarities and differences between the children’s choices. The girls showed great enthusiasm and curiosity as they began their new topic.
Outdoor classroom adventures for Year Three
Year Three have started the new school year with great enthusiasm! While some of the girls took part in a swim squad trial, the others had fun exploring the new outdoor classroom. When the rain began to pour, they were delighted to discover that the space is fully waterproof! Back in class, they enjoyed writing postcards about their summer holiday adventures and have been learning how to complete their daily Minute Maths homework tasks with confidence and independence.
Blended Learning in Year Four
Year Four have been exploring place value in a fun and engaging way, making excellent use of both traditional and digital resources. Using their 1:1 iPads, the girls accessed interactive activities to strengthen their understanding through games and challenges. Alongside this, they worked with Dienes equipment to build and partition numbers, helping to bring abstract concepts to life. The combination of technology and hands-on learning ensured that every pupil was able to grasp the importance of place value with confidence, while enjoying the collaborative and practical approach to Mathematics that is central to learning at EHS.
Fantastic start for Year Five
Year Five have settled back into school brilliantly, showing great enthusiasm and positivity. Pupils have quickly reconnected with friends and are also welcoming new classmates with kindness and confidence. In the classroom, they are already demonstrating strong focus and a fantastic attitude towards their learning. It’s been a great start to the year and we’re excited to see what they will achieve next!
Imagination and Flair in Year Six
Year Six have made a fantastic start to the term, settling back into school routines with focus and determination. This week, their writing lessons have centred on creating vivid setting descriptions using expanded noun and verb phrases. They children have enjoyed acting out expanded verb phrases through charades and have impressed their teachers with their creativity, adding layers of detail to bring scenes to life for their readers. From “the dense, emerald-green jungle canopy” to “the stealthy, amber-eyed tiger prowling through the undergrowth,” their writing shows imagination and flair. Alongside this, Year Six are working with great commitment as they prepare for upcoming entrance exams, demonstrating both resilience and enthusiasm for learning.
