Year 6 French ‘Staycation’ Experience

Preparatory

30 April 2021

During this very week, Year 6 girls would have travelled to a chateau in Rue for their annual Residential French Trip. As this was not possible this year, we decided to bring a French flavour to EHS Prep.

The girls arrived on Monday morning to a decorated Year 6 area, complete with Tricolore, bunting, balloons and a 6ft model of the Eiffel Tower. There was an excited and infectious buzz around Year 6 as the girls prepared their Scrapbooks for the anticipated activities ahead.

Activities, over the 3-day period, comprised a Virtual Tour of Paris and key landmarks, a Can-can and Mime Workshop, a French Quiz, a Lip-Sync Battle, Cheese Tasting, a Coco Chanel Fashion Workshop, a Blind Trail, a Treasure Hunt and Pétanque (French boules/bowls).

Mrs Hartley was keen to show the girls some of her Chanel products and Anna’s mum very kindly brought in a Snail-eating tong and fork set to examine. There was a Fancy Dress competition and a traditional French Breakfast with atmospheric French accordion music. The girls enjoyed a picnic lunch with specially-made cupcakes with French cake toppers and most importantly, a visit from the ice cream man (dressed in French attire!). Délicieux!

Prizes for many of the activities will be presented in assembly next week. This will be a challenging task as the standard of costumes, scrapbooks and overall effort and enthusiasm has been extremely high.

Rain interrupted our plans for activities on the field on Wednesday afternoon, but the alternative arrangements worked extremely well. The change in weather did not dampen our spirits, nor did it prevent the girls from taking part in an unforgettable French Experience. It is one we are sure they will treasure for many years to come.

Vive la France ! Vive EHS!
