Careers In Focus at EHS

Senior School

30 April 2021

It's always fascinating to find out what former pupils go on to do and as a school, we're always keen to raise awareness of the range of possibilities that are available to girls once they leave the confines of EHS.

From medicine, TV, finance, fashion and the armed forces to aviation, IT, law, music, academia, retail, architecture, health and professional services - there aren't many sectors that EHS 'Old Girls' aren't involved in. We work hard to ensure that whilst girls are with us they are exposed to as wide a variety of career paths as possible. As well as dedicated careers staff, advice and resources in school, we also work closely with our Old Girls Association (OGA) to match current students with OGA mentors in specific sectors. We are always amazed by the generosity of our Old Girls in offering their time and expertise to help guide and advise current students.

One of the most effective ways that they do this is through our regular EHS Career Talks series, which give girls a 'behind the scenes' glimpse into life in a particular field through the eyes of an ex pupil.  Today saw our latest installment and pupils were lucky enough to hear from former student, Henrietta Mooney, about her journey into the world of work since leaving EHS in 2014. After studying Fashion Management at Nottingham Trent University, Henni went on to secure a placement as a Trainee Buyer at Debenhams in London before, last year, moving on to work in the buying department at retail giant, Aldi. Henni's talk sparked lots of interest and questions and she gave a really interesting account of working in the retail sector - particularly in light of the challenges the sector has faced during the pandemic.

Another resource that offers a fascinating snapshot of life beyond EHS is our EHS Careers instagram account, @ehscareers. The account features short profiles sent in by EHS alumnae outlining what they have been up to since leaving EHS. It's a rich and varied showcase of all the different types of careers and life choices that our girls make and really is well worth a browse if you're on instagram. Take a look here.
