This Week in Westbourne

Preparatory

08 December 2023

In Nursery girls have focused on gold and silver this week. One activity involved rolling out model magic and then cutting our two star shapes - one big, and one little. These will be painted gold and silver and decorated with glitter ready to hang on our Christmas trees. In Maths the girls looked at alternate repeating patterns and printed silver stars and gold bells.  They also collaged an angel out of gold and silver material and the highlight of the week was working together to decorate the class Christmas tree.  They finished the week by making Christmas tree crispie pops.

In Kindergarten they have been focusing on Christmas this week. Girls have worked really hard to learn so many words for the songs in ‘Whoops-A-Daisy Angel’! Their listening skills have vastly improved too as they have been attentive to the Reception girls telling the story of ‘Whoops-A-Daisy Angel’.  In the classroom they have spent time talking about Christmas celebrations and sharing experiences of how some celebrate at home with family.

Girls have also been busy making wooden reindeer faces, Christmas trees, Father Christmas art and craft as well as some reindeer baking! They have also revised the phonics learnt so far this term, along with practising number skills, all with a Christmas theme!

Seasonal activities also continued in Reception this week.  Following on from the wintery weather at the weekend, girls made their own 'snow' in the classroom.  They enjoyed squishing and squashing the fake snow very much!  In Reception's French lesson, pupils learnt how Christmas is celebrated in France and made colourful French Christmas cards.  Topic lessons produced some glittery angels and cheerful snowmen which brighten up the classroom.

Girls were very impressed with the Year 1 and 2 Christmas production as they were able to go and watch their dress rehearsal on Wednesday of ‘Christmas Around the World’.  This made everyone very excited to perform their Nativity play to their parents too!
