Hands-On Science!

Preparatory

22 March 2024

On Wednesday 20 March, Year 1 girls visited the Thinktank Science Museum to consolidate their learning on the topic of ‘My Body’ which they have been studying throughout the Spring Term.

The children began their day at the Thinktank classroom where they learnt about the functions of organs such as their heart and lungs in a range of interactive activities. They checked their friend’s heart rate before and after doing exercise. They also learnt about foods that were good and not so good to eat in order to keep their bodies healthy. They then moved onto the interactive museum learning all about their body.

There was also opportunity to visit other parts of Thinktank museum. The girls particularly enjoyed spending time in the Science Park, an outdoor discovery space where they could experiment with forces and enjoy the water play. Some girls got wetter than others here whilst exploring the themes of engineering, mechanics and transportation!

They ended their day in Mini Brum, Thinktank’s own city where children are in charge. This gallery allows the children to explore and question their understanding of the STEM world around them. Through play, the city gave the girls the opportunity to think like scientists in real-life scenarios where they could test ideas, create and problem solve.

The girls had an enriching and enjoyable experience and many stated they would like a return visit with their families! A big thank you to our parents who came along to help.

Overall, it sounds like a fantastic day filled with learning, exploration, and fun!
