CAD You Believe It

CAD You Believe it Club is one of the newest offerings in the school’s varied and exciting co-curricular programme. This is a unique club run by the Design and Textiles department, and by the end of the sessions, students will have learnt many new skills including developing their design skills, utilising the laser cutter and creating their very own jewellery.
During the first session, students experimented with using a new software called Focus 2D Designer. Once they demonstrated that they were comfortable using this software, they then created their final design. Afterwards, they cut out their design using paper in the laser cutter in order to see if anything needs editing. An example of one of the students' designs can be seen in the image gallery below. The laser cutter can be used to either cut out, engrave or both.
The feedback so far is that the students are really enjoying the club: “It’s really fun”; “I like designing it on the computer” and “It’s really interesting to see it being cut out on the laser cutter.”
Once happy, the girls can choose which colour acrylic they would like to use and their design is cut out. To finish, the students select their jewellery hardware and add this to the finished laser cut piece choosing from silver or gold to create a necklace or earrings.
