Poetry writing and performance have taken centre stage in Prep with the launch of our inaugural Poetry Slam House Competition—a dynamic celebration of creativity, confidence, and the power of spoken word.
In a dazzling display of poetic flair and fearless performance, girls from Reception to Year Six took centre stage in our annual Prep Poetry Slam—a spirited House competition led by our English Co-ordinator, Miss Howarth, in honour of National Poetry Day.
This year’s theme, ‘Play’, inspired a wave of imaginative and heartfelt creations. From playful rhymes to thought-provoking verses, every pupil had the opportunity to write and perform her poem in front of her class, showcasing not only literary talent but also the confidence to speak with passion and pride.
Form winners were selected to represent their classes in the Grand Final, held in the Prep Hall before a full-school audience. The atmosphere was electric as finalists delivered their poems with remarkable poise, embodying our EHS values of courage, creativity, excellence, and perseverance.
The performances were met with raucous applause and admiration from peers and staff alike. Judging was no easy task, but Miss Howarth rose to the challenge, selecting winners who earned valuable House points and well-deserved recognition.
1st Place: Safoora (Year Five) Johnson House
2nd Place: Anna (Reception) Curie House
3rd Place: Kimaya (Year Three) Frank House
4th Place: Asiya (Year One) Curie House
Congratulations to all who took part—your voices were powerful, your words inspiring, and your courage commendable. The Prep Poetry Slam was more than a competition; it was a celebration of expression, imagination, and the joy of language
