This Week in Westbourne

Westbourne

14 October 2022

The week may have started with us supporting #HelloYellow day but it has been purple week in Nursery.  The girls have enjoyed many activities highlighting the colour. They blew purple bubbles which they then printed and used different shaped items to create purple printed patterns.  They also made purple jelly and a highlight was forming purple footprints which was followed by washing their wellies.  The purple water cause much excitement.

In Kindergarten this week the letter sound has been ā€˜pā€™, with a focus on the three little pigs, pumpkins, pink and purple.  The girls have enjoyed listening to and retelling the story.  They have considered what happened first and next and at the end using positional language to describe where the wolf was.  They have also been listening out for the letter p in other words in their reading books.  More practical activities included making big letters, exploring pumpkins and making pink and purple necklaces.

The girls in Kindergarten are also developing their language and communication skills in the show and share sessions which take place on a Friday when they bring items from home beginning with the sound of the week.  Peppa Pig will definitely make an appearance this week!

At the beginning of the week Reception girls made the most of a sunny autumn morning to take a walk around the school grounds looking for signs of autumn. They admired all the different colours of leaves from purple and pink to red, orange and yellow. Acorns and berries were spotted along with some squirrels busily collecting them ready for the winter! We took time to stand under the trees watching as leaves were falling and tried to catch them as they did so. They have written about the experience of their autumn walk in their writing lessons.

Reception girls have really enjoyed their first swimming lessons of the year. They have shown excitement, perseverance and determination already and we look forward to watching them progress over the year!
