We ended last week with our Celebration Assembly during which the results of the Language Poster Competition were announced. We congratulated Ayana Alidina, Zahra Pirmohamed, Inaayah Chatra, Jashvita Santhosh, Jessica Hung and Shayanna Patel on their research and their beautifully presented posters. There were also congratulations for Zoe Holden-Jones for winning two dance trophies and an Independent Learning certificate for Jashvita Santhosh who created a very impressive collage of a komodo dragon following her research on Joan Procter, the famous herpetologist.

We were also delighted to hear that Sprout, the guide dog we have been sponsoring, has graduated and become a companion for Isabella.

The great pumpkin weigh-in also began last Friday. Each class made an estimate of the weight of the giant pumpkin grown by our Year 6 gardeners at the allotment. The estimates ranged from 4 – 70 kg but many classes were very close to the actual weight of 16.4 kg. Well done to 6H who were closest with an estimate of 17 kg.

Friday evening saw the first Basketball Club session of the term for Year 5 and 6 girls.  The excitement could be heard right around the school.  City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club are delivering the coaching initially to our older girls and later to girls in Years 3 and 4. Pupils will be working on developing their ball handling, passing, shooting and knowledge of the game. The first session involved a fun agility game to start followed by practices to improve dribbling, cross overs, jab step and shooting under pressure.

The weekend saw a very enjoyable Fireworks Party run by EHSPA at the playing fields which inspired our Year 2 artists both inside and out of the classroom.  Many thanks to Hannah Cooray for the photos she took on the evening.

This week has involved a trip to Tamworth Castle for Year 1, a Shakespeare workshop for Year 6 and a computing challenge for Year 4. Year 3 were also excited to hear the results of the Nature in Art competition run in school with congratulations to Grace Low, Rihanna Brown, Holly Robinson and Genevieve Hines.  We really enjoyed seeing how creative they had been at using items found from the world around them.

Girls in Year 6 have explored a range of mediums to create Remembrance Art after discussing why poppies are a symbol of Remembrance Sunday.  Our week finished with a Remembrance Day assembly conducted by Miss Deacon and our Year 5 History Club.

Next week we are looking forward to welcoming parents of girls in 1B to their class assembly and to supporting Children in Need on Friday 18 November with our non-uniform day.
