This has been a busy week with our first trips out of school this academic year which girls have been looking forward to. Our co-curricular clubs and activities are also well underway with more than 30 to choose from. We are looking forward to watching girls develop a wide range of new skills and interests during the year.

Year 2 travelled back in time to London at the time of the Great Fire which you can read more about in the full story of their day. They really enjoyed extending their knowledge of this well-known historical event.

Meanwhile girls in other years ‘travelled’ round the globe on World Animal Day thinking of their very favourite animal which was not an easy decision to make for many of us.  We considered some of the endangered species of animals and what we can do to help to avoid them becoming extinct.  The David Attenborough video ‘What a Wonderful World’ helped us to see the beauty all around us and gave us much food for thought.

Thursday was another special day as we marked National Poetry Day in Prep.  We began the day with some performance poetry from Year 5.  They had been focusing on use of onomatopoeia, actions and voices based on the theme of machines in their English lessons. We really enjoyed the use of repetition and definitely had the feeling of machinery working. Well done to all of Year 5.

Thursday also saw Year 4 visit our local church, St George’s, as part of their RE studies and Year 3 head off to the Dudley Canal Trust for the day.  The girls will report on their visits in next week’s edition of Friday Headlines.

We ended the week with our celebration assembly during which we announced the total raised at our Macmillan coffee and chocolate morning. £537 was raised and we are grateful to all parents who joined us first thing in the morning in support of our fundraising.

There were our weekly Well Done certificates for Years 1 and 2 and individual awards for swimming 600m for Eliza and a dance certificate for Amaris for taking part in Just Naach at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.  We also marked World Smile Day in preparation for #HelloYellow Day taking place on Monday 10 October.  Girls are invited to wear a yellow accessory such as hair bow, socks, cardigan or similar with their uniform to show their support of the Young Minds charity.

Next week we are looking forward to seeing parents of girls in Nursery – Year 5 for our first individual parents’ evenings and to our Harvest Assemblies.  We are asking girls to bring in dry, non-perishable goods which will be donated to the Birmingham Crisis Centre.
