Subject Workshops Give Inspiration to Year 6

Over the last two weeks, the Senior School has been pleased to welcome Year 6 to some after school workshop sessions. During these sessions the girls got to experience a range of exciting subjects studied in Senior School, meet some of the Senior School teachers and Sixth Form subject scholars.
The sessions included Drama, where the students explored creating dramatic locations and characters through a combination of physical and vocal means, and Food and Nutrition, where delicious pizza wheels were created. Girls were equally enthusiastic about the grating of cheese and washing up afterwards!
In Classics, the girls learnt about the Greek gods and goddesses through looking at vase paintings from the ancient world. Using that as inspiration, they designed a god or goddess with their own symbols and powers. Some came up with a name for their god or goddess and tried to write it in ancient Greek. In Psychology, the girls completing the ‘Draw the Pig’ personality test and creating their own Rorschach blots using a variety of paints.
Girls also participated in Physics where they learnt all about oscillations by carrying out an experiment using a big swing and finally some girls experienced German where they found out about the German festival of Karneval or Fasching which takes place in February. They learnt German words around the topic of Karneval, created their own Kerneval masks (which were traditionally worn to drive away the evil spirits of winter) and finally played a fast-paced game of Blooket to practise the words they had learnt.
We look forward to welcoming Year 6 to other exciting events later this academic year, including the ‘Audience with EHS’ event which takes place in the Octagon on 28th February, an opportunity for parents and pupils to hear about the experiences of our current students and to ask questions with a Pupil Panel.
